Ugh! So tired of textese!
This is only my personal opinion, not meant to start any arguments or personal attacks against myself or others.
Not only on this board, but on another one I'm on, I see it all. the. time! I'm not against it completely...in a TEXT, I'm fine with it and even *gasp* use it!
Here's the thing, this isn't texting. It isn't even chatting, technically. This is a message board where we have real conversations with people, thus using real words should not be optional. The occasional emotion like "LOL" doesn't make me pull hair out, either. It's the OVER USE of this "language" that apparently drives me to near insanity.
The purpose of textese was to make it easier to type a word for a text message, where longer words can be difficult and time consuming to type out longer words or phrases -- such as laugh out loud. It is also used to decrease the number of characters used. Let me tell you something, okay? You aren't limited by character count here (or most of other forums).
Also? I know nobody will care about this, but textese makes a lot of really intelligent people come across as being complete imbeciles. With this, comes the majority of people I've noticed who wouldn't be able to use homophones correctly if their lives depended on it.
*Edited to correct a misspelling.

LMAO.... tell us what you really think!!!
See how I started that with...oh nevermind. I didnt actually plan that out I see it makes me look like IM being *****y and I'm not really. I actually have certain txty things I always use. I admit I have pet peeves about certain ones though. I HATE when people type "ne" or "ne1" but mostly the first because its only 1 letter off from the acctual word so show you you know the word come on man! :)
I've never noticed anyone posting on this board who uses them enough to bother me though...I bet there are more people on THIS board who dont use any text speak.

Same here. My texts are always full words with correct capitalization and punctuation. So it takes me an additional 10 seconds to type it on my phone - big deal.
So yeah, I only text on my work phone, which has a completely unlimited plan. I have NO free texts on my personal cell phone, so I think I may have sent/received a total of fewer than 50 texts on that phone ever (I've had the phone for two years).

Amen! How difficult is it REALLY to type out big, confusing words like "you" instead of shortening them? And, while I know some people may post from a phone/PDA at times, I would venture to guess most of us on a message board are sitting our rears in front of a FULL keyboard.
I have been a grammar/spelling/punctuation geek for most of my life, and editing has been part of my professional life since my very first full-time job out of college. This stuff drives me absolutely insane. I know I make typos at times, but they are just that and not gross errors; if someone misspells something once, I assume it was a typo, but if it is incorrect multiple times in the same post or thread, sometimes, I just feel it would be a disserice to not inform them of their error!
Okay, so that went a bit beyond textese, but anyway...I agree!
