DO YOU WANT YOUR OH MEMBERSHIP AND POSTS SENT TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS ON...
This is wrong on so many levels. It took me forever just to become a member of this site because I don't belong to any other message boards and having some level of privacy was important to me. I've only been a member here a couple of weeks and I've already changed my profile to private. Let us decide who knows we've had WLS by letting us tell them ourselves.
Until OH fixes this, my profile is "Friends Only". It's not for me. Heck.. I have had my pic in the hard copy of OH magazine. So I'm not hiding anything. But this is in solidarity with those who want the option of not having their personal information put anywhere but here.

Ava.
I am curious about something, as I just googled my name and what came up was amazing. . . so I am wondering if the "Facebook" is the issue, or is it that any site we post on the internet makes us vulnerable, because my name comes up all over the place at different sites that were supposedly "private", so just as an FYI to you and others, I suggest going and googling your names to see what you find out. . . please if you can let me know is it just me out there? or is everyone subject by viture of having posted here or elsewhere. . .
However, I do believe we should have the right to know what OH is doing before they commit us to things we may have no intent or reason to want to participate. . .
Thanks, Laureen

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen

All these posts are ridiculous! The only thing OH can do is remove the share button!! Anyone can still share threads, always have been and always will be able too. People on my FB and Twitter accounts repost links to OH threads ALL THE TIME before OH got with the times and added the share button. All you have to do is copy/paste a link into the status update area on your social networking account. Let me repeat.... it's always been done.
Someone can go to someone's personal profile and do the same damn thing. This issue really frustrates me because you accept that this is a public board on a public internet and you post all this stuff with your personally identifying information. I understood that when I joined and started posting to the original OH back in 2002. Links could always be shared, and Google saves the threads. Nobody has to do any Google searching - that isn't the point. The whole matter is sharing links to OH threads and profiles on social networking sites. There is NO DIFFERENCE other than they made it a little easier. No longer will someone have to copy and paste the link, instead you just click a button.
Until these groups are privatized with moderators, and having to apply to join the group, it will always be public. OH cannot do anything to prevent sharing links. Even if they required registering before reading posts, someone could register to read. If you want to see how public your life on OH really is, just google your OH messageboard name (or username). There is no hiding on a public board. You can only make your personal profile private, but your posts will always be public.

Are we really so naive to think that anything we post on the internet is searchable and arcived forever and ever? There is NO privacy online. Whether on a forum or email or websites.... if you type it and hit "submit", it's out there for the world to see. Share buttons to social networking sites mean nothing -- it was already out there well before this started.
