Does anyone have any experience with Costco's Premium Advantage Protein Bars?  A RNY patient (1 yr out) that I know swears by them, but I'm curious if they have too many carbs for most new post-ops.  They have 27? carbs but only 8 sugars per bar.  I'm still pre-op, but am trying to stock up before surgery.  Just looking for input.  Hopefully some of you can guide me

I get Costco's Premier Nutrition protein bars (we may be talking about the same bars) and I love them.  These have 280 cals, 23 gr. carbs, 8 sugars and 30 gr. protein.  I love them, but because of the calories, I usually save them for meal replacement.  You probably won't be able to eat a whole one for a while anyway, as they're pretty big.  Their Premier shakes are pretty good too and have 30 gr. protein for just 160 cals.  I don't worry as much about the carbs as long as the calories, sugar and protein are in line, but that's just me.  Good Luck!

Check the TYPE of protein they include. If whey is not the first one listed, it's not a very high-quality protein supplement, and you're likey not going to absorb much of the protein the label says it has. At least, that's my understanding. This is why I stopped using the Premier protein shakes from Costco - they listed 3 or 4 different types of protein, and whey was listed first, which means it wasn't even mostly whey.

I have them. But I can not eat them.  They make me sick.  So be careful.  Now - I feed them (one at a time ...) to my BF.  You never know what and hom much you will be able to tolerate post op.   And it took me 6+ weeks post op before I was even allowed to have a protein bar.  And then - I probably could have a bite or 2 before I had enough.  The protein bars - most of them are a very dense food.  Once you are able to have them - go to GNc, VitaminShoppe - and get one or 2 of differnt types.  Fuind the ones you can eat -  tolerate.  It may be all - or it may be just one or 2 diferent ones.

I like the LOW SUGAR Detour protein bars from GNC...they come in two sizes 30 g protein, 5 g sugar (and half that for smaller ones) , I cannot quite finish a large one.  Target used to carry the smaller size also...

Hi, i justed started buying the Oh Yeah bars at Walmart, but now I found the vitamin shoppe they are cheaper as they look like a small candy bar I jus****ch my carbs and proteins and watch the sugars.  Good luck, but if you are early out the PA in the office doesn't want you to have those for at least 6 months.  Have you been to the Sutter meetings the first Monday of the month at 6 pm also we have one every other Tuesday which is the second Tuesday and Fourth Tuesday of the month at Bethel Church at 6 PM. Come going us.  Any questions on protein, I can help you lead the way.
