I have been approved for surgery and now its time to come up with a date. I am curious how long the recovery time will be. i work a office job so no physical labor but mentally stressful which can leave me drained. I know everyone is different I am having RYN. I havent told my employer yet but I need to know if everything goes well I wonder how long. My doctor says 14 days but has anyone ever gone back to work sooner than that? I manage the office so my job is very critical to the functioning of the office. .........This is so hard to figure out! It is helpful to hear stories that give me hope!

What type of nursing do you do?  I work in the operating room and it is fairly physical, so I was wondering what your experience was.  I am planning on asking for 3 weeks and hoping to go back in 2.  Thanks,  Amy

Oh I am so glad you asked! I  manage an office too and look forward to the replies.  I wasn't planning on telling anyone just taking a "vacation" and was hoping one week...two at the most would be enough.

I was much too tired.  I went back after 4 weeks and I started with half days.

I also work in an office setting-mentally exhausting, not physical.  I'm taking 5 weeks off-but that can be changed depending on how I feel. The reason being that is what my dr. said and approved.  Also, many people have had 1 form of WLS or another.  The average seems to be 4 weeks.  Anything earlier (according to co-workers) is that they had a hard time staying awake and where so exhausted.  My original plan was 4 weeks but I'm a planner and planned for just in case.

I had the sleeve.  I had it done on Wednesday and went to work on Monday.  I was just fine.  I have the same kind of job as you.  I work for family and could have not come in at all.  The only thing I can tell you is that by the 14-16 day I could not move around too much because I was feeling weak.  As soon as I started eating it went away.  It was actually easier than I expected.

Well I'm finding a lot of us manage offices lol.  I went back to work 2 weeks after my surgery and I have to say, FOR ME, going back was my savior.  I came back on a Wednesday since I had surgery on a Wednesday and was tired but so glad to be back to being busy -- by the following week I was back to normal, assuming I every was   You are the only one that will know when you are ready to return -- perhaps schedule more time off and go back early if you feel up to it.

The only problem I really dealt with after my surgery that continued after I returned to work was insomnia.  This was NOT me!!!

Good luck beginning your journey

I too have a streesful office job, I went back in 2weeks. Not to bad you just have to jump back in there.  The first week was exhausting but that is to be expected, if I had it to do again i would have opt for 3weeks

I have an office job and I returned to work after 13 days.  It was very, very hard to go back that soon even though my job isn't physically demanding.  I had a lot of post-op fatigue (probably from the anesthesia) and wish I could have been off longer.

I think 2 weeks is the bare minimum you should take off -- more if you can swing it.
