Benefiber - OK after WLS?
Hi my friends -
I've always used benefiber powder packets in a bottle of water to help with my digestion. (Like crystal light to water) I've had serious problems with contispation in the past and one benefiber a day helps me tremendously.
My question - has anyone used this after RNY? Will it be ok?
I'm going to ask my surgeon on 4/12 during my preop but thought someone might have words of widsdom...

You probably won't be able to use it right away, as it is a very fine grit, and the surgeon won't want anything irritating your staple line. For the first week or so, you'll probably want to use Colace -- stool softener. Check with your doc, but after that, the Benefiber will most likely be fine. I've been using it since about a month after surgery.

You're wise to think about it. Especially with the pain meds they give you after surgery and the general anesthesia during surgery, you're going to get sluggish. Not to be too gross, but I remember the first post-surgery BM felt as though I was giving birth. It was rough, so whatever they can do to help you along will be great.

Just remember what "was", is not what "is" after surgery.. Thank goodness

yes- it was recomended by my surgeon.
