Did I read protein only lasts so long in a fridge?

Im not sure if I was dreaming this or not.  Is it true that once you make a protein shake it can only sit in the fridge for so long without losing protein?  I would like to make mine the night before so it can be ready for the morning but im not sure it would work.

Some people say that but I don't think it's true.  The companies that make protein shakes say it's not true and it makes no sense.  Ready to drink protein drinks sit for weeks and they still have protein, right?  Mike sits in your fridge for days and it doesn't lose it's protein, right?

It is true. When you reconstitute a protein shake most protein manufacturers will tell you to consume it with one hour. Products that come ready to drink have stablizers in them.

Call this one, they'll tell you:

866-333-7403 x803

That is Syntrax Bariatric sales dept. They make Nectar, Matrix 5.0, etc.

Perhaps with that particular product that is so, but with most products the manufacturer will tell you to use it within one hour.  Call and find out.

I use Body Fortress protein. I called them and they said to drink it with in 1 hour.   I have Whey protein Crisps and they said it does not break down.

It does not lose protein, but once the shake is mixed (from powder) bacteria can grow at an alarming rate.  Ready To Drink shakes have preservatives in them to prevent that from happening.

That  makes more sense to me.

I tend to think they don't want us to hold on to it too long, but only so that we'll either pitch it or buy more.  I do use mine up right away for the most part, so it's all good on my end, but I find it hard to believe that they lose some of the protein qualities.  But that's just me  :-)
