It's funny, I would have thought 88lbs would be so noticeable.  For others it has been.  I have been getting so many compliments and a lot of "wide open eyes".

However for me it was different.  I didn't notice the difference until recently when I went on a trip to NYC, you can read more here: http://aftergastricbypass.net/life/a-weekend-in-nyc-and-17-m iles-on-the-pedometer

No I know what a difference 88lbs makes and I feel so strong and have so much energy.  I'm pumped to reach my goal and lose the rest of this weight.

When did you notice the difference?
thanks,

Jesse Friedman

Self image is an issue that many post ops go through. They're so used to being overweight, that their brain can't recognize the thinner person in the mirror. You may hear everyone say they notice, but you don't mentally feel thinner.  In the  3 support groups I attend, there are a few members who had to get some counseling to overcome this issue.  They feel much better about the issue after counseling too.  Initially your new wt loss appears in your face, then proceeds "SOUTH" on the human body.  DAVE

I'm dealing with that same issue - I'm down 47.7 pounds since the surgery (nearly 70 since this all started!) and I see it marginally in my face and neck (and the "girls" *cough*) but it's hard to see the overall picture - though others who are around me daily are astounded (they say) at what they see change-wise.

Dave,

I noticed you mentioned hi protein snacks ect.....I was wondering if you can get too much protein, I found a 60g drink at GNS along with a 45g shot, I have been drinking two shakes and one shot a day.  I am 5 days from surgery and on my liquid diet.  I am nervous, confused and simply lost most of the time.  Any advice???

I've not seen any 60g drinks, moswt have been 35g or less for protein. Whey isolate protein is the best, then whyn concentrate. If you're lactose intolerant don't do the whey concentrate, since it doesn't have the lactose filtered out.  Personally, I try to avoid protein combo shakes.  Some of those high gram protein shots (look like test tubes) are not the right type of protein either for easy absorption.  I'd stronly urge you to get to support group meetings right after surgery.  These meetings are designed to address questions of recent post ops and you'll learn something new at every meeting. I attend 3 of these meetings a month.  Those high protein snacks I note should be use when you're 9-10 weeks post op or more, not right after surgery.  DAVE
