I am looking for causes of irreversible tissue damage. I tried Google but was not successful.

If you know of causes would you please let me know?

Thank you,
Lo (:

I just played around a bit in google and came across the below articles. It may be a start.  Wish the medical field would write their articles in layman terms.

I am not sure if you are writing about yourself or a friend/family member, however, just wanted to wish you well so that you can have a smile again.  :)

Not sure what kind of tissue you are talking about, but more than likely tissue damage comes from the blood supply being cut off and killing the tissue. This happens with bowel obstructions and the band slipping, seems to be the most common causes when it comes to weight loss surgery.
Not sure if this helps but for each situation of tissue death the blood supply is definitly cut off but the reasons may vary. Some tissue can regenerate but others can not.

I assume weight related like diabetes gangrene, lymphedema and stuff like that? I mean it's a big list of things. Frostbite, burns, necrosis from all sorts of other causes...

Mandi's correct......there are a host of possibilities related to obesity...and another set of issues for a postop. Its difficult to offer much help without knowing more specifically what the issue is. Hope you're ok.......Susan

Sounds like the OHIP out of country form?  In case you are not aware - the process has changed - and out of country is not available like it was previously - only in very specific cases.

Examples of irreversible tissue damage would be:

(1)  Damage to heart tissue due to Heart attack or blood clot
(2)  Damage to brain tissue due to stroke or blood clot
(3)  Tissue damage due to obesity related cancer
(4)  Tissue damage due to acid reflux disease
(5)  Tissue damage due to Lymph Edema
(6)  Tissue damage due to cellulitis
(7)  Damage to joints and skeletal tissue

Close, BC's out of country form :D

Thank you for that list, I can work with item 4 as my doctor recently took me off my PPI as he doesn't like to treat with pills and feels that losing weight will correct the problem.

Thank you all for the concern however I am not in trouble.

One of the reasons my out of country weight loss surgery application (wait time is over 4 years) was denied is because I do not have "irreversible tissue damage" or "delay will result in death".

I am trying to find SOMETHING to work with! You'd think that with a BMI of 52.3 you wouldn't need much "proof" that it is medically necessary LoL

Thank you all for the replies and concern!
Lo (:

Do you have joint pain? Arthritis? Denerative joint disease? The longer you're heavy, the more irreversable damage will be done to your load-bearing joints.

I don't really get joint pain and I don't think I have arthritis. Occasionally after standing for long periods of time my knees hurt and sometimes my heel hurts after sitting, but that's about it.

I'm 23 and have been obese (according to the BMI chart) since I was at least 13.

Thank you for your reply!
