Shrinking pains vs. growing pains - is it possible?

I've had an interesting 6 past days.  I'm going to see my RNY Dr. on Friday, but since I've started this journey in Jan of 2009, and then surgery in July of 2009, I have lost  194 lbs (wow, to type it amazes me).  But anyway,  7 of those lbs I have lost in the last 6 days, but I don't think that's probably so good.  You see, I had this horrific pain on my left side, right under my waist line (although, I think it started out a tad lower before), which started March 3rd in the afternoon, to the point that I couldn't sleep, tossed and turned, finally went to ER on Friday night (next day) and the non-bariatric doctors, ran all sorts of tests on me which came back negative......diverticulitis (sp?), flu, kidney stones, UTI (they had found blood in my urine) and to be honest, I'm not sure what all they checked for, but they ended up saying it was a viral infection and sent me home w/nausea medicine.  I was experiencing fever, chills, dry heaves (cuz I stopped eating due to loss of appetite), probably some dehydration too (ER gave me 500cc's of saline (1/2 hour drip?)  at the hospital and I started drinking water throughout the course of the past 4-5 days - so I'm trying to do better).  So I go home and found some pain meds that my RNY doc had given me after surgery (yes, I know, it might have been expired, but I needed some rest and relief), so I took it and was finally able to sleep and not feel the pain so much.  So this past Monday, I went to my PCP  Dr (hospital instructions) and he was clueless too, he ran some urine tests and voila, no blood in my urine.

So I'm wondering, have any of you ever experienced this horrific pain which made me double over in order to feel any comfort?   I had experienced the same type of pains w/in the last 2-3 months, but the pain lasted for about 12 hours and I started my period the next days, figured I was ovulating as I believe I am going through menopause and I was fine.  Kinda how I'm feeling right now, appetite is back, feeling normal, etc etc.

Not to worry, I'm still going to see my RNY doc on Friday, but was wondering if maybe there is such a thing as "shrinking pains"???

Thanks all.

Hi Luanne,
I had a phantom pain that sounds a lot like yours but a little higher on my left side, it finally got to the point where the pain was making me say "what the heck did I do to myself". The emergency room did every test in the book and couldn't find anything yet my pain just got worse, anyway it ended up being a completely broken through hernia.
After a 2 hour flight to my rny doc, he actually had to go in and do exploritory surgery to find it. He said 22 feet or something like that had broken through. From beginning of the pain until it came to a head was about a week.
It's worth asking about, may not be the same thing but it sounds similar?? hope you feel better!

thanks Becky - I hope it's nothing major, but if it is, at least he will figure it out........or at least rule out anything gastric bypass related...........  I'll try to keep ya posted.

I had 2 hernias - 2 different times. Resulted in 2 surgeries.
But - none of the tests I had showed anything. Based on symptoms my doc open me up and fixed the hernia, untwisting the bowels. Cat scan may not show anything. I was able to eat and drink. Though the pain would most of the time start 20-30 min after I finished eating,. But sometimes I would wake up in a middle of night with this horrible pain.

That is great. And I hope he is great. The adhesion or hernia - though not visible on tests are something you should not ignore.
BTW: my friend who had surgery 1 month before me is in hospital right now with pains... Most likely she will have the surgery..even if the cat scan shows nothing. She is in pain on and off for over 6 months,,, but we had so many surgeries that she doe not want it... but she may have no choice,,,

I had pains like that and I had started my cycle back again, I am 57  did not need to start that again, so my doc had me take a ultra sound and they found out I had 4 fibroid tumors on my ovaries. Doc said that they had probably been there a while but since I had lost over 100 pds they was easier to see now. so last Monday i had a fibroid embolization, I am doing good now who would had thought; So this wls has been good for me. Hope your doc found out what is wrong, keep us posted. take care

Thank you Phoenix.  How often would have you have those pains?  All the time or just around the time of ovulation?   Thanks, that gives me something else to google  :)

just an update - I did go to my RNY doc and he said all's clear in regard to my WLS.  He agrees w/me that I should get a pelvic exam or simply talk to the Doc about menopause.  I saw another post above this which I don't think I have had a chance to read yet.......going back now  :-)
