My reaction to milk is exactly same as dragon fly queen and I can only eat a bowl of ceral at home with someone around. The last time i did this which wasnt too long ago i had such a reaction it scared me . It only happens with cows milk, most other dairy products are ok except ice cream which is ok with me im not a huge ice cream fan anyway but i sure do miss milk on ceral. Now that i know for a fact what is going on i wont be using cows milk any longer.
I want to thank all of you for your input, i sure wish i would have found this spot a long time ago :)

Have you tried the lactose products? They provide the enzyme needed to digest the milk products. I use it all the time and am able to enjoy all the dairy I want. Which is good because I'm basically a rat in human clothes, loves my cheese!

When i figured out that my problem might be milk my first experiment was with lactose free milk. I foolishly used too much and that is how i figured out it must be cows milk in general. Since then i have moved on to Almond milk. Ive never heard of lactose products, are they cows milk based? if not thats what i will try next.

It is most likely the sugar in milk normal or lactose free still have a lot of sugar.
I dump on milk. But I can use Unsweet Almond milk.  No sugar in that.
The sugar and star*****ereal - adds to the milk sugars and causes dumping.

Guess I should have been more specific, sorry. Lactaid is a pill that you take before you eat dairy products and it contains the enzyme needed to digest the dairy. It works wonders and keeps all the nasty cramping and gas away. Makes dairy fun again! It is usually found near the pharmacy section where the digestive products are like the gas-x stips  and stomach acid drugs. Hope you can find some and try it, it works great for me. I never had an issue until I got my lapband but it sure did act up after that. Hope this helps, if I can give you any more info just PM me, glad to help.

I was lactose intolerant after my first WLS but since my revision I am not.  I don't drink a lot, though.  Just not a big fan unless it's in my shake or decaf coffee.

unsweetened almond milk is great with cereal.  Blue Diamond brand is 40 cal. per 8 ounces.
Only problem with it is that it does not have near the protein cow's milk has.  Maybe 1 or 2 grams per 8 ounces.

I am in the same boat. I loved a cold glass of milk or a bowl of cereal with milk pre-surgery. After the surgery, I can't tolerate it any more. Just one of the many things I gave up. I eat yogurt 2 times a day and even have milk in my coffee, and can have eggs or cheese, but milk, no way.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

I don't think it is an issue JUST for RNY folks, because the 4 people in my RNY support  group (in real life) and myself have NO problems with any dairy or milk....In fact I often have Mueseli with milk once in awhile (or Kashi Go Lean with ice cold milk). I put milk in my protein shakes, milk in my oatmeal and milk in all sorts of things...

Soy Milk, Almond Milk, Cows Milk and Goats milk (my all time favorite!) Yum! No problems at all for me...In fact once I was cleared at around 1 week for milk Goats milk and cows milk were my first "creamy" liquids I got and they sat very well with my pouch and digestive system...

I think it is just SOME people who have this problem, but definately NOT "ALL" (Just like only around 30% of RNY'ers "dump" from sugar, fats or carbs).

The one thing I DID have to give up that I can't tolerate at ALL post surgery is coffee of any kind...No matter how "watered down" even Decaf... (Tea is fine...Just coffee is extremely painful and makes me nauseous). It's a very small trade off.
Good luck.
Warmly,
Jackie

I have VSG and I can't drink more than a tiny amount of milk. Luckily I can have milk in things (i.e., cooked) and I can do cheese and yogurt. I can even have ice cream if I keep it to 4 oz. or less and it's not too rich.

About once a month I have a yen for cereal and milk and I just use soy milk.
