Surgeon Fired!

Thanks for the youtube link.  The only way the lady on youtube was happy was because she didn't have any screw ups.  If she went through what we did,  she would be singing a different tune.  As long as Brader is  in and out,  he's passable. But at the slightest problem, he'll turn on you faster than you can blink your eye.

my original weight loss surgeon lost operating priveleges at the hospital, and I fired him before my surgery because I heard a lot of bad things about him, adn heard he was having trouble getting any hospital to give him priveleges.

I'm glad that you were able to get through the complications.

Can we tattoo "idiot" on his forehead for all to see? Seriously. I work in a hospital, and we call these doctors lawsuits waiting to happen, so we chart our butts off. Should have an Angie's list rating for some of these people. I've known a lot of surgeons over my career who may do well in the operating room, but can't or won't care after. We need medical "interpretors" who have a specialty in advocacy. It's still an "old boy's network" I guess as far as protecting the inept, and dangerous.

Instead of "idiot", can we tattoo "asshole"? I like your idea of Angie's list rating the doctors.  That would really be a big help.  Thank God for nurses!  You and the rest of the nursing staff are the unsung heroes of the medical  community.

That is really scary!

Temporarily holding on losing more because I'm gaining!  Pregnant with my first baby (a boy!) due June 2013, after two rounds of IVF.  SO GRATEFUL!

It really is.  The only thing is Thank God that all the other doctors and nursing staff went out of their way to  take proper care of me.  By the time I got to the nursing home for rehab,  I had a pulminary doctor,( Ihad a track in my throat and on oxygen because I collapsed as soon as I was re-admitted into the hospital) respitory staff,  and physical therapists that wouldn't let me get away with anything.

Just more to think about...doctors who have a 52% 'BAD' surgical outcomes rating OFTEN let their medical malpractice insurance go...as it becomes too expensive for them to have. I hope, in your case, that is NOT so, as you can sue till the cows come home, but if he has nothing, you'll get nothing.
Do ALL your homework~check ratings online, ASK to see that he has malpractice insurance. Hospital affiliation doesn't guarantee that. I worked with a surgeon, who also did bariatric surgery, and was going to allow him to do my revision until I found out he had NO medical malpractice insurance.
SOOO glad that all you lost was 10 months of your life! These things DO happen. Hope you are on to a better place now!

I'm seeing a lawyer right now about suing.  I'm one of the lucky ones that had complications.  I lived to tell about it.

Sorry you had a bad experience. It sounds awful. My experience with Dr Brader has been nothing but stellar, and all of my WLS support people who have all had him do their surgery have also had nothing but good experiences. He has gone above and beyond for many of us. I hope you will get what you need and sorry for your experience. But I had to say my experience was top notch. Good luck.

I'm glad that you had a good experience with him.  One of the reasons I went with Dr, Brader is the reputation that he has as a surgeon.    It's just that I'm still angry that he didn't listen to me or other health care professionals( visiting nurses and a surgical problem that occured while I was in the nursing home.)  Plus, there other problems that occured as soon as I was re-admitted that I didn't go into(collapsing, put on oxygen, life support, and more).
As I said before,  I'm glad you doing well.
