Did not pass the stress test. Tues surgery cancelled

The thing that really bothers me is that I don't believe I should have had to take one in the first place.  I'm still fairly young and there is nothing in my medical history to indicate the need for one.  And if the dr's office would have contacted me sooner, I probably would not have had to cancel my surgery.

I go see the cardiologist Monday.  I hope he doesn't make me get a catheterization.  Anyone else not pass the stress test but got clearance without a cath?

Did they tell you specifically why you didn't pass?

They said it was positive for ischemia, which is blood flowing too slowly to the heart.  Possibly a blockage, but when I called the surgeon's office to let them know, the nurse told my a lot of times busty women get a false positive and with my age and history, this is likely, but who knows?

Um, if you did not pass the stress test, chances are you DO have a medical reason to need one. You do realize these preop clearances are done for reasons besides making you wait, right?

Hopefully your further testing will show that you can safely proceed with surgery. But your "belief" that you didn't need the test is something that could have killed you if there had not been clearance requirements in place.

I have had two heart caths. They are annoying but hardly the end of the world. However, if the only testing you've had done was a stress test, there are quite a few other things they will/would do to you before subjecting you to an invasive procedure.

Uh...that is what I was thinking too. No one is excempt from the stress test...because of cases like this, there is always the possiblity of underlying undetected problems. Be glad that your doctor followed protocal.

Well, if you didn't pass it, then it's a good thing you took it, right?

Hopefully things get straightened out, but if that takes a while, don't give up hope yet. You can still get the surgery once things are taken care of.

Good luck to you.

Hey, you're right down the road from me (in South Beaver).  I wish you luck at the cardiologist and hope everything is uneventful.  I've had one friend that was dinged on her stress test and had a cardiac cath.  She didn't need a stent or balloon; they said they "pushed out" a blockage... I didn't know that was possible.  She was reschedule for RNY the following week and had wonderful results.

I love driving through Beaver.  It's such a pretty town, it reminds me of Mayberry!

Thanks everyone.  I'm trying to keep in mind that it can be rescheduled and maybe not too long from now and yes it will be a good thing if there is a problem, but it's still frustrating.
