Sludge in the Gall Bladder after taking Ursodiol

I recently experienced pain on my right side under my rib cage.  A trip to the doctor led to an ultrasound which revealed sludge in my gall bladder.  I took Ursodiol after being sleeved from March 2010-Sept 2010 specifically to avoid gall stone formation.  Although I don't have formal gallstones that have formed, I'm a little surprised at the diagnosis of sludge.  Anyone else have this?  Did you have surgery to remove the gall bladder?

I had the band but also took ursidol for a full year after, that was 3 yrs. ago. Guess who had their GB taken out a few months ago?? Don't know why it happens but apparently it does. I had a stone the size of a golf ball plus tons of sludge. I guess some of us are just lucky!

I am 1-1/2 years out and did not take any preventive medication after surgery.  I recently had two bouts with pancreatitis.  One of the causes of pancreatitis is gall stones/gall bladder problems.  Although I did not have any stones, I did have sludge.  After several tests to eliminate the gall bladder as the cause of my problems (ultrasound, CT scan, HIDA scan), the surgeon determined that the gall bladder was the problem.

I had surgery about two weeks ago.  Thank God it's gone.  I feel so much better now.  Hope you find some answers to your  problems.

It's confirmed...I am going to have my gall bladder removed on June 20th.  Can't say I am going to miss it (and my boyfriend won't either...I've had HORRENDOUS gas the last few weeks.  Poor guy said his tombstone is going to stay he die from asphyxiation).  The good news is Dr. Schauer at the Cleveland Clinic (in Bariatrics) is going to perform the surgery.  Hopefully I'll feel better and be able to resume running and swimming and get rid of this deadly gas!

How long was your recovery time?
