Hey guys and gals. I've suffered with being overweight my whole life. And I can't for the life of me figure out a way to keep it off! I run. Try to eat well and do pretty good. Any tips or pointers on how to be successful?

Oh, also, I found this blog post about why you  never see obesity in mother nature. Super interesting and never thought about it! Thought I'd share!

The kind of crap that is in that blog post is a) connected to advertising and b) not what this site is about.

You are new, your profile is empty, and what you say about yourself does not jibe with what you put in your info block when you set up your account. Nice try, doesn't fly.

Wow. I don't think a spammer would reply to you.  Sorry I read something I thought was interesting, never considered before and wanted to share. Thanks for making me feel welcome though.

Oh yes, both spammers and trolls are known to respond. Perhaps you would do better to spend some time reading this site and seeing what it's about. If you want to talk about diet stuff, as in weight loss without surgery, there is a forum on the site dedicated to the subject. The very vast majority of the site is focused on the various kinds of obesity surgery and all that is therein entailed.

You would also have done better to actually introduce yourself and make the tiniest effort to get acquainted before posting that kind of thing.

I like your post.  It is true and very interesting for me to consider this.
Thanks!

My tip for being successful is to get WLS. It controls your hunger so you can keep the weight off. Dieting increases your hunger (once you stop dieting) so it's doomed to failure.

Btw, it's not true you don't see obese animals in nature. Animals vary in that regard just like people do.

LOL! Good tip, MacMadame! I guess I just assumed the OP was a WLSer.  Oh well.  That is a good place to start, for sure.  I am all for eating whole foods, though.

For most people, the answer is simply diet and exercise.  Weigh****chers has about the best program for overall education and support.   When diet and exercise is not enough, surgery can be a wonderful tool.  The friend that you are supporting is likely in that situation.  Surgery still needs to be accompanied by diet and exercise for the person to maintain health and weight loss.

The picture of the giraffe is very interesting and thought provoking.  There is some factor at work in humans that causes weight gain and also causes the body to always want to return to that high weight.  There will be some time in the future when weight loss surgery really will involve the brain, either with a scalpel or with drugs.

You can help your friend by researching the various surgery types with her and helping her to make the best decision for her.

Don't be discouraged by rude replies from some people.  There are people on the board who truly want to be helpful.  There are some that life has turned bitter.  Perhaps the misery caused by the overweight before surgery, their body's reaction to their surgery type, or just their dispostition in general makes them mean and prone to bullying.
