I'm bummed because I thought he was going to be home for a couple of weeks after surgery.  Turns out he has to leave for almost five weeks, five days after surgery. (work and dates can't be changed)  I don't have a great support system around here, so I hope I don't run into problems.

My husband left me before my surgery, to the world of other women. I had to go through it all by myself. I did it and hopefully I'll be able to pick the pieces of my life when I recover. Count your blessings- at least your's loves you.

I have faith you will be ok. The only thing I needed family for after my surgery, was to help make sure I didn't overextend myself on the lifting restrictions. But I was doing great with everything else. Does your surgeons office have a support group? Can they put you in touch with a post o to be a 'buddy'? And used OH, the emotional stuff was far more challenging than the physical stuff after surgery.

Good luck!

Unless you have some post-op complications, you should be OK.  Lap surgery is a lot easier to
recover from than many surgeries, and you should be doing fine in a week or so.

When I had my surgery, I was alone from the day I got home from the hospital (I was a single
woman, no family at home) and the only time I asked for help was from a neighbor to take me to
the grocery store.

You'll be fine, I promise!!

That's good to hear, and I have neighbors who could drive me to the grocery.  I don't usually have complications from surgeries.  I probably will be fine.  I'm probably more worried about the emotional thing.  He only just got back from a 3 week trip so I think I'm just being oversensitive to his going away again so soon.

Well, it's certainly not unexpected to wish he weren't going, but other than that, I'm sure you'll
be fine.

Best wishes,

If you have a sun lamp, use it after surgery...it really helps me with the emotional- hormonal sensitivities. Just set it up where you will be longing after surgery... Be thankful for the laproscopic surgery my recovery was from an open procedure and I couldn't lift anything but my glass  and  baskin robbins tasting spoon  for.6 weeks.

When I had my surgery three years ago, my surgery date was kind of unexpected.  My doctor had a cancellation so was able to slip me in much quicker than expected.  Unfortunately, my husband also had a race he'd been planning to drive in for well over a year during that same time frame, and I refused to let him cancel and I did fine.

He was home with me for 8 days before leaving, but even if he'd left sooner I would have still be okay.  Not quite as spoiled, but I would have certainly been able to fend for myself and the dogs.

Unless something out of the ordinary happens you should be okay.  You're going to be sore, but nothing you cannot deal with I don't think.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!!!

As already stated...baring complications you should be fine.

The only thing I would suggest (if you can afford it) would be to hire a cleaning service for about four weeks post-op.  I was not able to help clean the house for about that amount of time post-op.

Good luck.
