MAGNESIUM

I was told that magnesium is a good source of sleep aid when taken at night and was wondering if anyone is aware of this and if it's ok for us to take. Does it absorb?  I have taken many other sleep aids but would like to go the natural route if possible and have tried many of those also but they do not work for me. The only thing that works for me right now is Ambien.

Thanks

I use sea salt to suppliment my magnesium, it also helps me with  the muscle, leg cramps I used to have. I just use sea salt a in everything...and I also make my own home-made gatorade with it. It absorbs very well this way.  According to my surgeon, calcium and magnesium are best absorbed at night...when using suppliments. I have to use it continually to get enough, for I had surgery many years ago.

Typically I take 400-800 mg of mag oxide a night.
As a woman - on HRT - I also take progesterone before bed.
Works like a charm...

big time. BUt I take that in capsule form - quick dissolve. Do not get the same effect with pills.

Thanks for letting me know, just one more question though - what brand do you use and from where?

I really do not pay close attention to brands. But I do look for caps vs pills. I have no problem swallowing capsules. But pill - the taste and after taste - or the fact that they will star dissolving in your mouth... grrr...
I use brands for Vitaminshoppe, or vitacost.com, walmart or Walgreen's.
I also use  - Nature Made  high potency Mag (oxide - 400 mg).  Got from Costco or Sam's.
I do notice that some bands I need to take more than others (the nature Made - Liquid soft-gels - can not take more than 800 per day - If i do take more - I get Runny BM....)
Since magnesium relaxes me - I try to avoid taking in during the day - unless I had too much coffee and too much stress and feel very tense... then 1 mag oxide - will relax me...

If you want it as a sleep aid, someone said they used the quick dissolve... that would be reasonable for a sleep aid...
and I wasn't sleeping much when I had cramping, so yes it stopped the cramps, and I slept fine.
as you get your magnesium  back to where you need it to be...it should mean you can reduce your other sleep aid.
Just as there is no one size fits all surgery ...for weight loss,   there is no absolute here. You will just have to keep trying til you find your magic formula.  Just keep trying, you will find what works for you.
