Anyone else just do the 48 hour liquid for surgery?
I've been able to eat normally up until last night and now I'm doing the clear liquids for surgery on wed. I'm getting off easy, I know.
I've heard from a couple of sources that food travels through your body from 1-3 days. If it's 3 days before I am completely empty, why a two day liquid diet? Do you get an enema or something before surgery. I didn't think to ask about that at the time.
Guess I'm just worried I will hold on to some of my final meal on sunday night. -Specially now I'm not on caffeine to help things along.
I'll call them tomorrow if I'm still concerned. I'll see that happens today.

You did get off easy. Many of us had to do a two-week clear liquid diet and then a colon prep the day before. I don't think they will have to do an enema before surgery. Are you getting a sleeve? I thought that all of the cleansing I had to do was because they were cutting intestines.
Mine was only 24 hours and I was not given anything to clear me out pre-op.
I guess every surgeon has his preferences. Just follow his instructions and you'll be fine.

LOL, yeah. You got me. Think I will find something else to worry about. Hey, how is norfolk these days? I used to live in Va Beach up till last year. Worked at Dominion Enterprises for a few years too. I miss my friends from down there.I just went to a concert Saturday night on the boardwalk at 17th St. and it was delightful. Good music, sea air, warm gentle breeze, Dairy Queen softserve.
Where are you now?

Gainesville, VA. About 3.4 hours north of you. Nice weather here too. Oh I bet that was nice. I miss the beach. Crap. I think my hunger is kicking in. Time for broth.

You did get off easy, but so did I. I only had to do 24 hours, with the last 12 being no food OR liquids at all. That was mainly for aspirating for the surgery, not to shrink the liver like those who do the 2-week diet. Your surgeon is probably looking to empty your stomach, and that will be empty in plenty of time. I did just fine, and I'm sure you will too. Congrats and good luck!
BTW ~ I had never heard of a two-week liquid diet until I came on here, and I have SEVERAL friends and family who have had WLS. No one I knew had to do more than 48 hours of liquids.
