Ladies I need help with something Please!
The copper IUD has no hormones the only negative to this IUD vs. the Mirena is the fact that your periods will be MUCH heavier for the first few months. Like go through a heavy pad in an hour heavy, and you certainly couldn't use a tampon, I'd be worried it would even fill one of those cups super quick. But it calms down and becomes more normal about 3-5 months in but mine were always a bit heavier with the copper IUD than without. Now the mirena does have hormones but it also means my period is about non-existent. I get light spotting for about 4 days, a pantiliner is enough.

I have the copper IUD. This is my 2nd one actually. I had my first one for 8 years and this one now for 3 years. Its nice not to have to think about taking a pill or getting a shot that makes you crazy and fat. I highly suggest the IUD. AND when your ready for another baby you can get preggers right away after its removed.
I was on the depo and the only good thing was I didn't get my period but hated the injections I got them every three months and in different places and that needle hurt like a *****! Not to mention I blew up like you would not believe I gained weight like wow! I would say the IUD and you mentioned insurance is a problem well Obama passed a law free birth control I am serious find a planned parenthood or a good clinic to take you.
Good morning, I was having issue's with my period after surgery aswell. Although I can't have anymore children (tubal ligation) my family physician suggested and IUD. I opted for the Mirena.
With the Mirena IUD most women eventually don't have a menstrual cycle, and if they do it is very short and light, for me that was perfect!! They only side effects I have noticed with the Mirena is that sometimes I bleed a little bit after sex.
I have a Merena IUD and love it.

I'm surprised that more doctors don't tell RNY patients not to take the pill as it won't be fully absorbed. I've followed the philosophy that ANYTHING that relies on the body's absorption of hormones isn't a good idea for RNY ladies -- unless you are willing to accept a didn't-plan-on-this baby. ;) I tried an IUD and found that my periods got worse, so I had it removed, but a lot of women like it (not the Mirena...but I can't recall the name, sorry). I did also try the Mirena and don't recommend it. Google it and you'll quickly find out why it's bad news.
Good luck to you!!!
Good luck to you!!!
I'm unsure if this was the main cause I had been using Nuvaring for 3 months and then it began to slip out when I would try to reinsert I would meet resistance so I went to see the obgyn who told me my uterus prolapsed(dropped) and I wouldn't be able to use nuvaring anymore. Unsure if the nuvaring was the actual cause but it seemed odd it was fine until then it was also after my Rny so it was mentioned with the weight loss organs may have moved around.
