Purse Chicken

I think I have a good idea here, and thought I'd share....well, I think it is a good idea...most of my friends/family/co-workers think I'm nuts...until they get hungry and want my "purse chicken".

Every weekend I grill a batch of boneless/skinless chicken breasts.  One for each day of the week.  I put cajun seasoning on them and cook them on high so they are slightly blackened (yum!).  I put each in a zip bag and store them in the fridge.  Each morning I take one with me to work.  Around 8 or 9 I start eating it....it is my 2nd meal of the day...and I crave it.....like chocolate.

If I'm headed out to a meeting or something, I throw the bag in my purse....hence the name "purse chicken".  If I'm on the road and I get hungry, I take a big ole pull off my purse chicken....and all is well.

I guess it is odd to see someone just reach in their purse and pull out chicken!  On a recent "chick trip" we were laid out in a casino in the wee hours of the morning....and I got hungry...then I remembered my purse chicken....so I pulled it out right there at the slots....and my friend was so excited that I had a snack!  A new "purse chicken" fan!

So I guess what I'm saying is be proud of your protein...however you get it.  Oh, and you probably shouldn't push the envelope as much as I do.....I carry it around for hours and eat off of it...and I've never gotten sick.....but I have cast iron insides!

Have a great weekend!  And Publix in AL has chicken breasts on sale this week!!

I think this is a great idea!  For anyone worried about the chicken not being refrigerated, I have seen some really cute
insulated bags that look like purses that can be used.  Get some of the doodads you can freeze ahead of time to put in the bag and there you go!  Replacing Emoji...

Ha Ha!  I have BabyBels that I put in my purse but we've always called them "pocket cheese".

A few years back, before she died at age 100-101 (hard to know since she died right before or right after her 101st b'day), I asked my grandfather's cousin what they ate on the then-three-day horse and buggy trip into the big city.  (It's now a 45-minute trip.)

Fried chicken was big on the list...along with hard boiled eggs and pickles and cheese and tortillas and apples and such.  There was no refrigeration and--until the horrid worldwide 1918 Influenza Epidemic, most of them survived.

Your chicken may have a family history of being a safe traveler.

I so relate - I'm know to carry the "burrito purse" because I always have a half eaten burrito in there.

Dogs love me.

Oh Kim, this is too funny! I love "purse chicken". I cook a big package of bs chicken breasts every week and the hubby and I eat them everyday.
