Thanksgiving temptation is a few days away and I'm only 4 weeks post-op... How do you handle being around food and not being able to eat???

Eat what you can and leave the rest.

Look at the big picture and know that next year you will be able to eat Thanksgiving dinner....ok, so it will NEVER be the same it was in the past. But you will get to eat it again.

Stay focused and stay compliant with what your doctor and NUT (dietician) have advised for you at this time in your journey.  IT WILL BE WORTH IT!!!

And on Thursday, simply enjoy the social aspect of the day...catch up with all those crazy relatives that you haven't seen in eon's!!

You CAN do it!!
Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels!

I try to stay focus on that thought! Next year I'll be able to do all the things that I can't/haven't been able to do!! I should be starting solids and trust me I'm scared of eating anything that isn't soup b/c I'm afraid of it might do to my pouch or how it will make me feel!

Thanks for the encouraging words!!!!

Tomorrow will be my 6 yr. surgiversary since I had my WLS.   As others have said...stay focused on what you can  have.    I know I did chicken broth seasoned with sage and a llttle poultry seasoning.   It was Yummy to me and at Christmas I did eat just a tiny bit of what I could toleralte.   Trust me.....you have LOTS to be grateful and thankful for this year......A BRAND NEW START at a healthier lifestyle and life for you and your family.    The holiday's shouldn't all be about food although I know it usually is.  Have a great time with your family and friends and enjoy your time together this year and be Thankful your beginning a new journey.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

You are so right! Over the years as an over weight person holidays were ONLY about the food! But I have to think differently now b/c I am starting a new life!!! Thanks Vivian!!

I am using my recent surgery as a delightful reason to not have to spend hours slaving away in the kitchen.  I'm also reminding myself that while everyone else will be in a turkey coma after dinner and up half the night with heartburn, I will not.

Seriously though, I agree with the other posters who advise you to focus on the family and fun, not the food. And it's a great way to avoid being sent home with leftovers.

My son's birthday was a few days after my surgery so I had to go out to dinner with the family on the actual day and also deal with his birthday party that weekend.

Being somewhat exhausted helped. For the party, I just sat there and vegged. I also made sure I had a protein shake in my hand at ALL TIMES.

For unimportant events, I just hid in the bedroom when people were eating. LOL
