Thanks all for the advice.  If I can't find a pair of jeans from all this then they don't exist!

I am a true apple also.  I have had the hardest time finding pants that fit even after my weight leveling off.  My hip/buttock/legs are approx. 2-4 sizes smaller than my waist/flank area, depending on brand. So I'm a 6/8 in my hips, but size 10/12 in my waist.   I have tried both cheap and expensive brands.  I cannot wear anything but low rise or lower midrise cuts.  Also DO NOT try anything that says curvy fit, as they are cut wider in the hips/butt and smaller around the waist.  I must always wear a belt.

So here are the brands/styles that I wear and the only ones that fit me properly:

1. American Eagle-  I fit into most of their styles.  I actually just bought 5 pairs during their 40% off sale. They also offer short online in most of their styles.  They are all flattering. I get 1 size smaller than usual.  They are inexpensive and I've been most successful with them.

2. Free people-  Their skinny cargo style pants(not jeans) are comfy and not super suctioned to your leg. Also just bought a pair of knit bootcut pants from Loehman's. I usually get them at Lord and Taylor on sale.

3. Mavi-  Amber cut.  Got them at Lord and Taylor on sale. They run long. Might be able to find them online.

4. Dylan George-  Olivia black skinny pant. My favorite pants!!!  Thick fabric, super black, no fading, 4 way stretch so they NEVER stretch out.  Expensive, but my best investment since surgery.  The only pants that I've had for at least a year and still fit even though I've lost more weight since buying them.  They are discontinued, but I seen a few pairs online on random sites just this week, as I want to get a smaller size while I can.

Also just as a note, my thigh area is pretty thin considering, but some brands I would be able to wear if I had just a little more volume in that area are Paige denim, Joe's jeans, and degain.  Check out a TJMaxx that has a runway section for cheaper prices.  With the exception of American Eagle(since they are cheap) DO NOT buy any jeans with less than 2% stretch or they will stretch out within hours of wear.

lots of very good advice, thanks.

Right now, I'm a 16 around the waist and a 12/14 around hips and thighs.  I have to wear bigger and even hubby was chuckling and tugging at the excess material around my thighs saying it was time I shopped for new clothes.

I won't buy too many right now because I'm early in my weight loss journey, but I'm going to need something soon.  What you said about stretch makes sense and I'll keep that in mind while I shop.

You might want to consider shopping in a maternity department until things stabilize.
