This should totally be the title of a reality show. I think it'd be a hit! I mean, you've got all the things people love to see--fat people, surgery, and several type A people not getting along!
Bwahahaha! We should pitch it to the Heatlh Network or  Discovery Channel!
When push comes to shove....shove hard!

Never regret anything, because at one time it was exactly what you wanted.

In your spare time maybe you could read through these 7 pages and see how many people benefitted from surgery wars?

VERY good post!

I don't need my coffee with milk and sugar so I guess I was never bothered by the "wars".  There are some people that are passionate about making sure the new folks KNOW what is getting done to their bodies and they want to ensure these people are knowledgeable about all the surgery options.

Had it not been for MsBatt and several other DSers, I wouldn't have even known what this surgery was!  Ultimately it wasn't the best for me, but I do know statistically it has the best long term weight loss and it is quickly becoming the new "gold" standard.  They also encouraged me to know and be able to explain EXACTLY what was being done to my insides...and I took their advice.

There are a very few people on here that berate others for their actual choice.  Most are just passionate about making sure you know what you are doing and know all the options (pros and cons) available.  I am thankful that I crossed paths with so many knowledgeable people.

And as for the ones that some folks think are "crazy"....I like a daily dose of crazy and enjoy watching them-bless their hearts!!  God bless us everyone!

I agree.    I think the people that hate the so called "wars" don't understand that just because the way the message is relayed may be confrontational, does not mean it isn't valid and important.  If you aren't able to get past the tone of posters, you may well be depriving yourself of some amazing resources and information.

I had the DS precisely because of a surgery war post.   I was just starting my research on OH, but didn't know about the DS or that it was an option.  My insurance company failed to mention it, and the small bit of info I did know was the typical DS lies - you will die of malnutrition (easily preventable), you will **** yourself all day (never happened to me), and that you will be a foul-smelling beast with no friends after surgery.  (okay, I've had a few 'sulfur pants' days, but that was totally my own fault and easily prevented by my food choices.  Sometimes eating a bunch of cookies is so worth smelling like evil.)

I believe that many of the people who were responsible for getting out the information about ALL of the surgeries and the STATISTICS of success/failure of said surgries that have vanished from OH will be sorely missed.   I hope the newbies will somehow find their way to this information - otherwise it is their loss.

Two Kims can't be wrong.  (But the recently deceased one sure was. )

I am fairly new to the site, a few months. I can see both sides here.

I understand that the wars imparted valuable info to many but lets be serious here folks. There is no reason why we should have to overlook the tone of posts, or look past posters rude remarks just to filter out the truly important bits of info.

This is a HELP board, if, as adults, we can not monitor our own speech and conduct ourselves with dignity and respectfulness then I don't care how important your info is I don't want to hear it.

Seriously, there is no excuse for the rudeness and the flaming of the surgery wars of yesterday.
If they, as adults, can not impart important info to their peers in a respectful way then they have some really serious issues to work through somewhere other than here.

I don't post often, I plan to post more once I am closer to surgery, Feb '12, but I had to give my 2 cents on this issue. Mainly because I was afraid to post due to many of those rude people. No one should feel afraid that they will have to endure ridicule, insults, and mockery just for asking a question. *Even if in those rude posts there happens to be valuable info- still not ok!*

This is a support group, no one should have to 'deal with it', if you are needlessly rude you should be asked to leave, bar none.

I have to ask - do you actually use henna? because I bought some and am about to try it myself. the instructions are kind of ...well, it seems like a big hairy deal. not as easy as the "chemical" hair colors.  love the color in your photo.

as for your post:

I don't care how important your info is I don't want to hear it.

I sure would, especially if it could save my life. or even just get me the best weight loss surgery.

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Yes I do use henna, but not for hair primarily. I am a Henna Artist, I do Mehndi designs for faires, festivals, weddings and parties. I have been a henna artist for 12 years. For info about hair dye henna go to www.hennacaravan.com they have a tutorial page and they are a wonderful organic trusted henna source.
My page is www.Mehndispirit.webs.com

As far as your comment about my post,
I think that is great that you would want to hear. I disagree, and thats one of the wonderful things about being individuals is that we can disagree. I only stated that 'I' don't want to hear, just as you only stated that 'you' would want to hear.

I think thats why this issue has sparked such a debate. However I still feel that as adults we should be able to say things without negativity.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't mean rainbows, never what I said. I said dignity and respectfulness. In particular I am commenting on the rude remarks made to one time posters(newbies) who were just begining their search for info. It's one thing to verbally smack someone across the face with info if they have repeatedly asked the same thing over and over and are just not listening, however it is quite another thing to verbally smack a person who might not even know if WLS is for them and is just asking some basic questions.

Thats what tact is, not sugar plums and fairy tales, but being an adult and understanding that not every situation needs to be painted with the same brush.

I am not a mod, I didn't kick anyone off, I am only saying 'for me' I feel like I am more empowered to post knowing I will not get flamed for asking a simple question.

Sure there are people in the 'real' world who are mean, sure you can have a tough skin. But I came here seeking people who understand what I am going through. I came here to let down my guard and open up about how I feel in a safe and welcoming enviroment- and that is not how I felt when I saw how people were being treated.

I have spent my whole life having a tough skin battleing people who want to hate me just for the way I look. But here I thought I would find kinship. Why do we have to battle eachother, why is one way better than another?

I work with mentally ill and behaviorially challanged children. I don't EVER yell, not ever. I sometimes need to use my serious voice and some kids will tell you that makes them pay attention more than yelling would ever. But the point is I never need to resort to immature behavior like yelling, mocking, belittleing, and insulting to get my message across. Even when they are doing something dangerous or hurtful- and yes I do mean more than the average kid. I regularly have feces and knifes thrown at me, swears said at me I have never even heard of, and kids who will literally scream all day. Still I do not insult them, yell at them, or belittle them. I don't use rainbows either, I simply give them very direct and clear instructions. Tact.
-I realize this is a bit long winded and if you have made it this far-thank you.

The point is that we all have an opinion on this issue whether yay/nay/or indifferant but the fact of the matter is it is done and over. I was mearly expressing my opinion on how I feel with the new forum- which is very positive.
