Taste bud change and protein shakes

Just have to say those changes can occur anytime.

I have read a lot about people having protein shake issues.  Couldn't relate, because my taste buds didn't change after surgery and I was drinking my protein just fine.

Then I  had to travel unexpectedly.  Two months after surgery and I had to be away for two weeks.  What a difference two weeks can make!  For ease of use, I took a broth flavor protein with me and used that.  I can still drink it easily enough.  I just don't want to do it too often because I notice it has a lot of salt in it.

I was shocked when I got back to find I HATE the Jay Robb I used to like just fine and used 90% of the time.  The break of two weeks seems to have changed my taste buds so now I have to choke it down and I now have a lot more sympathy for those struggling with protein than I did before.

What does your Dr. say about drinking meals? Mine says not to do that. He says I am too far out (4 months post op) and should eat my meals.
Sincerely,
Brenda Bedell

Which brand is that and where do I buy it?   I've been sticking to 100% whey protein isolate, but lots of people seem to do fine with blends.  I like coffee (and tea) so I might give it a try.

I get confused about the posts after a while;  I hope I'm answering the right one!

The name of the brand is Syntrax Nectar, and they mix with water.  Some work with milk.

The company has about 12 different protein mixes, and they will provide samples of each.  Just go to their website.

I still use a Isopure Ultra-low Carb Dutch Chocolate for my morning meal, even after more than six years.  I never used to eat breakfast, which can give a person massive blood sugar lows, so the chocolate shake and a banana is the perfect breakfast for me.

Your life choices may differ.

Good luck!

I've not tried that one although I think it's pretty popular.

Are you still using the Protein shakes? I am 4 months post op and my Dr. says I cannot drink my meals, I need to eat them. What does your Dr. say about meal replacement with shakes?

I was told that the people who continue to use protein shakes had the most success longterm.  (This is from feedback from other patients.)  I'm lucky to have an excellent practice who listens to patients and pass a lot of info on.

And as much as I have gone off Jay Robb, once it's down there is nothing quite as effective in keeping me from snacking between meals and at 145 cals a serving (including almond milk) it's a snack replacement rather than a meal replacement.
