When you see yourself in the mirror...

...how many still see yourself as you were before WLS?

I ask because even though I lost a total of 30 lbs from Autumn '10 to Spring '11, I never saw much difference when I saw myself in the mirror...

I want to be able to see me as I really am after the excess weight has come off and I fear that I won't...any thoughts?

I've lost about 110 lbs.  When I look in the mirror, I see a thin person.  However, what's REALLY shocking is -- it's my mother!  She's been dead for 10 years, God rest her soul, how the f*ck did she get in my mirror?

While 30 pounds is a tremendous amount of weight to lose, I can remember feeling the same as you do.

Hang in there because while 30 pounds certainly makes a difference, 60 pounds will make a huge difference, and so on and so on.

I now see myself as fit and in pretty decent shape for an old broad. LoL

I look in the mirror and see someone small and skinny. I don't believe it is me.

Just does not get to my brain unless I stand there and tell myself.

If I am not looking in a mirror, I still feel heavy. I will always check and make
sure I am not the heaviest a room. I still walk to the plus size section first
in a store. And when I go out to eat, I feel like people are judging me if I actually
eat.

I am working on this, but a lifetime of being and thinking one way is not
going to change overnight.

This is the same with me.  I see a smaller person when I look in the mirror but when not looking in the mirror I feel like the same fat person.  I have been fat all my life so it will take a while.

Something that helps me for accuracy in body view is group exercise classes in front a mirror. The work I have done shows up there, and it's way cool! Not bad for a 61 year old!

Plus it's a win-win- I'm getting my exercise in!

But my head still plays games with me when it comes to clothing sizes- I want to go for the bigger stuff, and I get surprised when it doesn't fit.

It honestly took me a while. I am in size 8 jeans and am just beginning to realize I'm thin (not willowy, I have a big frame, but absolutely thin).

It took me over a year and a half to really be able to see the "new" me in the mirror. Taking a picture every month in the same place each time is the ONLY way I cold see the difference for that first year. Take pictures, LOTS and LOTS of pictures. You'll see the difference when you can put them next to a before shot.

I have not had my surgery yet.  I have lost 19 lbs from new years to now, and I do not see the difference, even though others tell me i look thinner.  I still see fat.  I see the weight coming off on the scales, but that's bout it.
