I guess I am missing something and I am new to this website. However, I have not been told that I will have a tube down my throat and nose after surgery. If you do not mind. could you tell me what kind of surgery you had?

My guess is during the surgery itself for breathing since you will be under anesthesia.  My throat was a little hoarse also.  Kari

I had RNY and my anesthesiologist (spelled wrong Im sure) told me I would havea tube in, but it would be placed after I was out and hopefully removed before I came to.

My surgeon said the same he would have it inserted after I was under and it would come out right before I wake up. My  mom who has had numerous surgeries told me basically they can tell when you are coming to and a nurse will be by your side watching you and saying wake up honey they will have already pulled out the tube. I do remember waking up from my hernia and I believe they were giving me oxygen or something I woke up and fell right back out to sleep. I did eventually wake up and was able to go home a hour later amazingly.

Ok ...I feel stupid! I read the post as if she had to come home with this in her nose and throat!
Please accept my apologies.

Don't feel stupid Kelly! I thought that at first, too.

If the OP means that she was intubated for general anesthesia & the tube was removed before she came to, I understand OP to mean she's hoarse now & has a scratchy throat.

Is that right, OP?

I was like that, too. It went away in about a week. Drink hot ginger tea plain. WOW did that help my throat AND tummy.

I was very fortunate and had no sore throat post op. Tube should be in and out while you are sleeping. They do tell you that your throat may be dry or sore afterward.

you aren't stupid,I read it exactly the same way. OP said "darn tube in my nose and throat *for 3 days*".

That indicates to me she might have had some problems because they would not leave the anesthesia tube in her nose and throat  as it would be taken out before she ever left the OR.

Guess we will have to wait till she posts more to find out.

I had no sore throat after mine was removed at all.

nope things are still kind of fussy as to what happened and why i will ask ?? on my recheck but for some reason they had to keep my tub in for a few days hurt like hell every time i swollowed or breathed. it was in for three days after woke up . apparently i had to have two surgerys at once but not sure what he all had to do. I seen five patients have ryn done and none had this tube so its not normal. Loretta
