Quiting Smoking
As part of my journey I am quiting smoking. I went to my PCP yesterday as I need a letter from him for insurance purposes, we discussed quiting I told him that I have already decided to quit smoking and have picked a quit date. He started discussing Chantix with me, he wants to make sure I win the fight so to speak and he knows I have tried quiting before but lost the fight. He warned me about the side effects as well
My question has anyone here used Chantix to quit smoking? and if so how bad were the side effects for you?

I have heard good and bad about Chantix. I quit smoking after 22 years with hypnosis. Just on a lark, I attended one of those hypnosis seminars at a local hotel for $40 or $50. Amazingly, I walked out a non-smoker. That was January 9, 1992, and I have never had the craving for another cigarette.
I also attended the weight loss seminar and obviously since I had WLS surgery, that didn't work! lol

I quit smoking around 1991 when CA imposed a 50 cent per pack tax. I'd tried several times before cold turkey, with no success. Chantix or other stop smoking meds were not around then. I opted to try a hypnotist. A group session with about 50 people, laying on the floor with the pillows we brought. 45 minute session, $35 and it was over. I kept a carton of cigarettes on the seat of my work truck for 6 months. Never touched it and finally threw it away. Best $35 I every spent. Hypnosis may not work for everyone but: if you have a real desire to stop, you're mentally ready, it'll likely work well for you. You have to be a "good subject" for hynosis to work. DAVE

My hubby tried Chantix about 4 years ago and after 10 days on it was suicidal! I am not knocking it though just want you to be aware. I tried it a few months ago and it didn't do a whole lot for me. After about 2 weeks on it, I went to the doc and had gained some weight and I cried for 8 hours! I overreacted JUST a little lol. I also noticed a lot of road rage when I was on it.
I have not yet been successful but hubby started electronic cigarettes 3.5 years ago and has not gone back. In the long run they are cheaper and taste/smell better. He is still using it and he says he would never go back.

I quit smoking in May using Chantix. It has helped me tremendously.. I had tried the patch, the gum, the lozenge, the nasal spray, cold turkey, hypnosis (several times) tapering off, you name it. Nothing helped until I started the Chantix. This has been the easiest quit ever....virtually no physical cravings, just have to deal with the mental ones. Yes, I did have some weird dreams....not scary, just really bizarre. They only lasted for a week or so and I haven't had any problems since.
Good luck - Chantix is worth a try. If you have uncomfortable side effects, you can stop taking it.

I used Zyban which is also known as wellbutrin. It does the same type thing as the Chantix, it is an antidepressant and really helped calm the feeling like your stomach is gonna crawl out your spine. That was 12 years ago and still a non smoker. The most important thing to remember is if you mess up just jump back on the wagon and carry on.
