Help
I am 9 days post op and have some questions. My doctor has me on a full liquid diet until week 2 post op. I am not sure if I am drinking or eating enough protien, but I am pretty sure that I am getting plenty of water. I haven't had a bowel movement in 6 days I have taken a few stool softerns and nothing. Am I not having a bowel movement because I am on the liquid part of the diet still?
First, some questions. What form of WLS did you have? How many ounces of liquids---and if you can swallow it without chewing, it counts as a liquid---are you getting in every day?
At this point, hydration is your biggest worry. Protein, while always important, isn't really even on your radar right now---but protein shakes count as liquids.
When you say you haven't had a bowel movement, do you meant that, literally, NOTHING has come out of your...ah, behind? No stool of ANY sort? (I'm thinking liquids/soft serve, here.)
Pain meds tend to slow our bowels down, but my surgeon wouldn't let me leave the hospital until I'd passed stool. Did you have any sort of a BM before you left the hospital?
HAVE YOU CALLED YOUR SURGEON???

I definitely agree with MsBatt...CALL YOUR SURGEON!
When I was on the liquid portion of the diet, I thought I would not stop having diarhea ((sorry to be so graphic))..but it was like the liquid was going in and coming right back out. I thought that's why they make sure you are getting your liquids in. Now that I'm eating my protein and taking my vitamins, I get "clogged up" a couple of times a week, and when I don't go, I KNOW IT!!
Every person is different though, but I would definitely call the doc...after all, that's what you are paying him/her for! ((get your money's worth!)) (smile)

MsBatt,
I had a bowel movement the day after I left the hospital it was hard though, and then a couple of days later I had another bowel movement that was diarhea.
I will give my doctor a call and speak with to see if every thing is alright.
Usually, we think 'liquid in, liquid out', but if that's not what's happening for you---CALL YOUR SURGEON, ASAP!
Six days is too long to go without having some sort of BM. However, if you had a solid BM the second day after leaving the hospital, and you've had a 'soft serve' BM a couple of days later---which, if I'm counting right, was two days ago---then you're FINE. NORMAL. OKAY. Etc. and so on. (*grin*)
