I had surgery in March-- My period came and went like normal  ( 5 days bleeding cycle )when it was supposed to in April- and in May ( around the 16th of every month) I have always been regular!! . Then in May- I get my period for a second time starting on May 27th and it lasts til June 9th- with lots of pain and lots of huge- HUGE blood clots.( something I havent seen since I gave birth 13-16 years ago!) Now my periods have been heavy for a while-- but only usually last 5 days- 7 at most from start of spotting til completely gone.. yes I do get cramps- and it is heavy -- but not these huge blood clots-- and im talking HUGE- alot bigger than a quarter size! anyways-- so I get my period a second time in may - from May 27th and it lasts til June 9th!! Extremely heavy and major clotting. Then it comes again in June - on June 25th and last for over 2 more weeks-- steady- and still more clots- lasts from June 25th til July 16th!!! So I think-- yayy-- I wont get it for a little while--- and what do you know-- July 28th hits and Im on it AGAIN!!!!!!  WTH is going on???  (( the reason for not going to any doctor yet - is because the first weird extra period in May and early June-- I couldnt get an appt---before I left for a vacation back to the states-- I was traveling in the states for all of July and am now ready to get back on a plane to Germany this morning --- and Ive got my friggin period again.. )) When I say its heavy in this post-- its heavy--- like changing the tampon every hour on the hour- super absorbancy.. not every single day is that heavy -- but since being in the states and having my period twice there for a total of 22 days- I have gone through 4 boxes of 56 count of tampons!!!  ANY IDEAS OR ADVICE-- YES I KNOW GO- SEE A DR.. i WILL as soon as I can in Germany -- will be there tomorrow.. but in the meantime-- any ideas or ?????????????????

ok this sounds EXACTLY like what i experienced. I went to see my OBGYN it turns out this happens when we are low on Iron..some OBGYN doctors will tell you  you need a hysterectomy for this , DON'T !!!!you are loosing way too much blood..it' just a case of being low on Iron..bet you feel weak too as I did..If you want to try taking extra Iron supplements see if this works for you too.let me know .I feel your pain as i experienced this same thing. PeaceV Wendy

My did! It comes all the time whenever it wants. Sounds exactly like what I go through. I have DNC to slow down the clots. I have been going through this since 2000. Good luck

My doctor put me on Provera to help with my bleeding and to regulate my cycle. My first 2 after my surgery was horrible and long with lots of cramps and heavy bleeding. It took a couple of months on the Provera but it is really helping now. This last one barley had any bleeding and only lasted 4 days.

First you have to rule out early menopause. Hormonal changes are very common after WLS and most of us have had a weird experience with our cycles because of surgery. Most of us will GET our period just after surgery no matter what your body's regularity. I did.

I have serious heavy periods, too, so my GYN and I decided on the Merina IUD. It's the first IUD to slow down flow. I LOVE this thing. It lasts five years. I had my first one put in before bypass and it survived that. I'm on my second and not a single problem.

There are other options like D&C or ablation. Check with your GYN.

Although my post-op periods weren't as frequently as yours, they were super heavy, large clots, extremely painful cramps(from the clots), and longer than normal.  However, once my weight loss slowed and my weight wasn't fluctuating my periods went back to "normal".

Thanks everyone for the replies. I went to my doctor *****ferred me to a gynacologist who said I needed a D&C due to a polyp that was the cause of my heavy bleeding. I will be going to get it this week sometime..
