Open wound
I haven't had a single complication, til now. I woke up last night to one of my wounds opening. Called the surgeons, who's 2 hrs away , and they just said cover it with gauze and watch for fever or puss. If that happens come in .
Good news is he said these laparoscopic wounds don't generally become infected. But, still worrisome at the same time. All my other ones are completely shut and for the most part healed. Weird this one would just come open.
Anyone ever had this problem ?
I did not have that happen with this surgery. However I have had a surgical site "burst" in the past. I was not feeling well prior and just thought I was just run down from surgery and all. It began oozing immediately and smelled. If it is not red, fevered, and your feeling pretty good otherwise I would not be concerned. Keep it clean and covered.

Sometimes you will build up fluid under your incisions and your incision will open up a bit to the pressure and the fluid will gush out. It is actually good that the fluid leaks out instead of collecting under the incision. The fluid could be straw colored or pinkish in color. If it is thick, smelly or pus like then you need to see your dr. I had the same thing happen to my hysterectomy incision, it healed up fine.

Yes, I've had two open. They are just now healing after a month. Do not put peroxide on them!! I made that mistake and it delayed the healing process. I squeezed out the puss and kept them as dry as possible. No fever, swelling or much redness.
I had this happen last year after a laparascopic gallbladder surgery. I think it was about day 4-5, before the bandages had been removed. I noticed blood on my shirt, so I lifted the edge of the bandage to take a peek and WHOOSH! a large amount of dark red blood poured out.
My knees went weak and it was all I could to to get to the toilet to sit down--I really thought I was going to faint. Fortunately, my nursing experience kicked in about that time and my thoughts cleared, so I realized that although this seemed like a lot of blood, it was actually OLD blood mixed with other fluid. I got it cleaned up and DH helped me examine the site. Only one small open area, no pus, no fever. I went ahead and called my surgeon because it was about 9pm and I was just a little freaked out. My surgeon was reassuring and I went in the next day to have him take a look. All was well and it continued to heal. I have a keloid scar there now, so it's not too pretty, but no further difficulties. Best of luck you you, OP.
