I got news today that my BMI is too low for the DS--my insurance requires it to be 50 and I'm at 38. So it looks like ill be having the sleeve.I have mixed feelings , of course. But I am surprisingly at ease with the idea. But now I need to unlearn just about everything I researched for the DS.

I don't know your story, but I'm sorry things didn't work out for your preferred surgery.   Nevertheless, lots of people do very well with the sleeve. I started with a BMI of 41 and reached normal BMI in 8 months, then my personal goal at 9.5 months.  I'm below that now in maintenance.  I hope you have a similar experience.

If DS is what you want then appeal.  All you have to do is provide peer reviewed studies showing the benefits of DS with a lower BMI.

You have to live with this surgery for the rest of your life, fight for the one you want.
