Each surgeon is different. For some it is none and others it is weeks.

Much of it will depend on you. And to be frank, I am VERY glad I was on one for 22 days pre-op. It helped me transition from chewing and being so obsessed with eating prior to my surgery. It was as if it reset my mindset. Then again, the very day of surgery a pizza ad had me wanting a bite of that, so it wasn't a magic solution. But it really did teach me that I was in control of ME and MY choices and that was huge!!

My surgeon does a minimum 2 week liquid diet for everyone, but I know some that did it for 8 weeks because they had so much to lose and such high cholesterol and other factors. I had mine for 22 days because of an OR scheduling snafu that was not caught until about a week into my liquid diet, so they extended the date and I was on it 22 days. By day 3, I really did not care, I was satisfied by the liquid diet and while it would be nice to have eaten all manner of things, I did not and found that I could be quite happy sipping away in preparation as well as post-op.

These are things the surgeon and nutritionist at your location should be able to detail specific to you once you meet them.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

I'm on day 14 of my clear liquid diet pre-op.  Tomorrow's the day. Days 1-4 were pretty rough, but after that it's pretty manageable.  I can't say I've been hungry (ok I have, but not ravenously so as I expected) but I have been pretty tired and cold.  It's more of an annoyance than anything else.

It's one heck of a good investment though.  Significantly reduced surgical risk, good pre-op training for the new life, and I've done it happily.

Michael, I sent you a friend request...I see your surgery tomorrow is with Dr. Wagner.  I'm tomorrow, with Dr. Snow! If you'd like to say hi and compare notes at some point tomorrow or Thursday, you can check my profile for my before pics to see who to wave to. Good luck, I hope everything goes smoothly for  you!

Ah, you're before me. I just got the call from Carrie, I'm scheduled for 11:30, so I don't need to be there until 8:30.

Depends on th surgery and the surgeon. I didn't have any pre-op diet at all.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I have to do 21 days of optifast shakes, SF jello, and 10 cal soup broth.  i am on day #5.  The first few were tough, but I am getting use to it.
