Feeling like a failure!!!

So I had RNY two years ago this month. Since that time I have practically gained back all the weight that I lost. In that time, we moved to a new state and my husband was unemployed for a whole. Without insurance, it was hard to get back on track.  At this point, I'm at the end of my rope and revision surgery seems like my only hope. I'm afraid that I'm destined to be the fat girl. What if this doesn't work? What if my insurance deities me this time? What if I'm not strong enough to see this through? I'm not sure if I'm even a good candidate for a second surgery since I did so poorly the first time.  All I know is I don't want to continue like this.

You probably need to look at why your first surgery failed.  Did your not having insurance cause you to eat more?  Did it cause you to eat the wrong things?  Probably not.  The reason they require us to have a psych evaluation before surgery is because we have to tell them that we thoroughly understand that the surgery itself is not a magic wand.  It is a tool only.  You still have to watch what you eat, eat healthy foods, get some exercise in, etc.  If you think you are prepared to try and do it the right way this time, go ahead and seek the revision.  If you don't think you can do that, then you'll be putting yourself through a painful and expensive operation for nothing.

I'm with what you said, Linda.

We have to be willing to take responsibility for ourselves and our lives. As you have found out the hard way, Melanie, the surgery will not do the work for us- we simply have to work it, no choice. So unless you are willing to be 100% responsible for producing and maintaining the results, don't bother with a revision. It won't be nice to your already suffering body and health.

The last two posters have said it all for me. Surgery is only the beginning. You need to work out why it didn't work for you, not having insurance can't explain it, it would perhaps with a band as you might not have had fills, but not with RNY.

Maybe your first step should be counselling or a nutritionist?

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
