You need to form a team IMO. Get to a Nutritionist asap. Share the plan she creates with your therapist. Share info with a potential surgeon. Look at this as a team effort. They are there to support you - let them! Of course I'm not saying you don't have to do your part, and it's the biggest part too huh? But commitment, determination, tenacity, and faith in yourself should all be key words in your vocabulary -- right now, and forever.

Git on it!

Oh, and don't look at the whole thing at once - it's too big. Instead, break it down into realistic goals, and add one every two weeks. Example: For one week I will get all my protein in. For one week I will get all my fluids in. For one week I will exercise 2x per week. Something like that. We all know HOW it works, it's just MAKING it work - that's up to you.

Hi Kim,

Kim here :-)  I also have lupus, fibro and a host of other nasties.  I got my band to sleeve revision in June of 2013.  I've lost 98 pounds so far.  I started at 345.  I want to encourage you to take a deep breath and really try to follow a good eating plan for at least 1 month.  If you don't have a plan, many sleevers find that eating under 800 calories a day, including 60-80 grams of solid, dense protein, under 40 carbs and 64- 100 oz. of water a day gets them to goal.  The first few days will be awful as you de-carb.  Once you get through that it becomes much easier.  I have not added much exercise to my normal routine, so it's totally doable without it.  It's better if you can exercise more, but not 100% necessary.  Having another surgery will not magically make you lose weight.  If you consider a DS, make sure you can have someone figure out your meds.  DS folks don't absorb everything and dosages need to be thoughtfully planned.  Best of luck to you.

Please come visit the vertical sleeve board.  There are a ton of wonderful people there who can give you great advice about becoming successful with the surgery you already have!!!  If you have a nutritionist or dietician available at your surgeon's please make an appointment.   You are certainly not the first client they have had who has experienced regain.  Perhaps some of the medications you are on have contributed to your weight gain.  I am a sleeve patient, and perhaps having the ds done is the answer, but please  get back to basics with the sleeve, it may be all you need.  I would advise a support group or counseling also.

God bless you,

Anne

Whoa.  Whoever it was above that told you not to try to lose any more weight before you see someone about a DS is way off base.  You can out-eat almost any weightloss surgery.  Yes, even DS.  I have a friend locally who had a DS and she has not been successful at losing weight.  You really need some counseling about your eating issues.  Weightloss surgery is tool for losing weight, it's not a magic bullet.  There is absolutely no point in putting your body through another surgery if you're not going to follow the rules.

Now, onto the health issues.  I have lots of bone and joint problems.  I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia years ago, but I never believed I had it.  Now I'm not so sure.  I still go out almost every day for a walk of 3-6 miles.  Yes, it took me a while to build up to that, but you're not going to get anywhere sitting on the couch.  Talk to your doctor about the kinds of exercise you should be able to accomplish without hurting yourself.  Your weight and your health is your responsibility.  Take charge of it.

I had the Sleeve done 2 yrs ago and in the first year lost around 75lbs and then it stopped. I have been stuck between 201lbs - 212lbs . It sucks..But I am  also very aware that it is my Own Fault. It is so much easier to eat junk food. It goes down easier and doesn't hurt.. Plus its so simple to grab something you can just eat verses having to cook..Call  it Laziness... So over this last week I  decided to get back on track.   It sucks no matter how  much or how little you need to lose. It still sucks.. So Stop thinking about how much you have to lose and just try to focus on 5lbs at a time.

Try the 5 day pouch test..not to test your pouch but to GET YOU BACK ON TRACK.... It really helps with that..  www.5daypouchtest.com   also for $10.00 go out and get a DVD by Leslie Sansone's Walk at home.

Its a great indoor power walk. 1/2/3/miles walks are on the DVD. No Crazy moves to learn. Very Simple to follow. the 1 mile walk only takes 15 mins of your time. if you can only do 5 mins then start with 5 mins.. Dont give up on yourself .. YOU CAN DO THIS

What type of medicines are you on with fibro and lupus? Do the medications enhance hunger and weight gain? Can you educate me a little bit on it? I just want some insight into what it's like to be YOU. Also, were you diagnosed with these conditions prior to VSG or were you diagnosed afterward and then went on medicines? I am sorry you have to be sedentary. What would you say CHANGED in you that caused you to gain back the weight you lost plus some. I am not criticizing you. We have ALL been obese here or we wouldn't have needed weight loss surgery. Would you say there was a medication change that caused hunger? Were you dealing with depression that made you want to eat? Were you drinking high calorie items like sodas or sugary drinks? What was it that CHANGED in you after successful weight loss. SOMETHING set this off. I want to help you figure out what. I will message with you or even text with you if you need a friend. I have never offered my phone number to anyone on here but I would do that for you via a private message if you want my number. I know the pain of obesity. I am not going you make you feel bad. i want to help you. Is your therapist helping you properly and do you feel comfortable being honest with the therapist/psychiatrist? If you aren't getting help, you need to switch to someone new. I just want to send you a big hug. You are obviously in a lot of pain and need HELP.  (((((HUGS))))) I know some people have a tough love approach, and sometimes I do, but in this situation something is obviously wrong and I feel strongly you need a helping hand.

I have MS and had breast cancer a few years ago, and several other chronic illnesses that I believe stemmed from side effects of medications I have taken for these conditions.  The medications received for auto immune diseases make it very hard to lose weight.  Also I believe (personal opinion) that prednisone actually changes the way the body metabolizes carbs.  I am very sedentary because of inactivity.  My plan has included therapy, a personal trainer that has worked with people trying to come back from a chronic illness, oa, and a PCP that understands the difficulties involved with all these things in play.  Please feel free to pm me for encouragement.  I don't know anything about the DS but that sounds like a plan.  ((((Hugs))))))

Thank you, everyone, for sharing your thoughts. I was diagnosed with lupus and other autoimmune diseases and syndromes when I was 28, I'm now 43. At first it was under pretty good control. About ten years ago it really started to get bad and my list of medications grew and grew and grew, including high dose steroids and other meds that stimulate the appetite. I didn't want to mention it initially because I didn't want to blame the meds. It's me who is doing the eating. I have to somehow learn to fight these urges to over eat and do my best on these other weight gaining meds. The good news is, my rheumatologist is having me taper down on the prednisone on Saturday. I'm currently on 80mgs, so it will take a while to go down to 10mgs which is where my rheumatologist wants me. He's concerned about my weight and says weight loss will be easier when I'm on a more manageable dose of steroids. I still have to be accountable for my actions. I see a therapist. I started putting on weight after my grandmother passed six years ago. Still, I need to get a grip before I die.

Bless you for your willingness to not blame your weight gain on other factors, hamptons11937. And steroids and antidepressants and other medications can definitely effect metabolism with subsequent weight gain.

You truly are in a pickle, aren't you? But it sounds to me like you are coming to grips with what you need to do. I'm glad you're seeing a therapist. And I encourage you to be as gentle and kind and firm with yourself as you can possibly be- the way I'm sure you are with your 8 year old.

(((hugs)))
