Head Hunger
I am on day 2 of my 14 day pre op diet
I am allowed 3-4 Protien Shakes a day I can add 1/2 a cup of fruit to them
and water or CL
Starting to feel the head hunger
any suggestions
Eat sugar free jello or sugar free popsicles. It will at least kind of feel like you're eating.
Eat some low sodium broth. It will kind of feel like you're eating, too. And sometimes hot liquids seem more satisfying to me than cold drinks. Try hot decaf or herbal tea.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
Take a walk, read a book, and just try to get your mind focused on something else. The head hunger is the worst! For me, I just tried to remember that this too will pass. I wasn't hungry, in fact, I sometimes had problems drinking all my protein shakes. I had a month long pre op diet, 80-100 grams of protein via shakes, and up to four half cup servings of either sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, runny cream of wheat or broth. My husband had a 2 month pre op diet of the same guidelines. I want to say the head hunger gets better after surgery, but it is still a battle. The only thing that really helps is reminding myself why I am doing this. Good luck to you and best wishes. You can do this!
