fibroids

I will say I did have my ovaries removed.I had cysts growing constantly.I do not feel I am a dumb cookie for having this done.If anything I feel better. My hormones are normal.I have a healthy life.I do not feel I have been castrated. I did a lot of research before I had this done.I did not fly by the seat of my pants and think I should have my ovaries removed.I do have ovarian cancer in my family. And the people who had cancer are no longer in this world.I have lost weight since my hysterectomy so I think everyone's decision is something they have to choose.
Nope, 3Bassethounds, I wasn't name calling. I think you understand what I originally meant, but I will restate it, hopefully more precisely so no one else misunderstands my intent.
What I meant was that in the absence of a family or personal history of cancer, it is preferable for a woman to keep her ovaries during hysterectomy. Especially if she has not yet undergone menopause.
If you have a history of cancer or a family history of ovarian cancer, consulting with your OB-GYN is your best option. In the end, the decision is yours, as you are the one who will have to live with the results.
I. am. not. a. doctor.

If you use the search function, you will find that there have been several discussions on here about hysterectomy and weight gain, and the VAST majority of us who have had hysterectomies and/or are in menopause is that there has been no significant weight gaina s long as you continue to be mindful of what and how much you eat.
You are, in fact, more likely to gain weight if you take some of the drugs used to treat the fibroids (e.g., Luprin, which I tried, unsuccessfully, in the early 90's).

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Luprin made me super crazy too. Surprised my daughters (teenagers at the time) survived it. I'm so glad I had my hysterectomy 3 years ago. Getting rid of my uterus was one of the best health decisions I ever made--up there with RNY.
