Yes.  When I started the liquid diet, I felt like I was going to die.  I felt exhausted and irritable.  I was also an insulin dependent diabetic -- so I was certain that my blood sugar was plummeting too low.  However, every time I took it, it was fine.  I was having 4 to 5 protein shakes a day, broth and crystal light --- I could have had jello, but I absolutely detest it.  I really felt like I wouldn't get through the pre-op at first.

I liken the feelings I had to coming off nicotine or another addictive drug.  I honestly feel that for a few days my body played every trick in the book to get me to put it's drug of choice back in (for me this was carbs!) -- magically, about day 4 or 5, I felt so much more in control.  I am not going to say it was easy then, but it sure as hell was a lot easier!

Just stay the course.  You can do this!  I swear to you that it really does get better.

Edited to add:  Swanson's chicken tortilla BROTH was a life-saver for me.  It really felt like a meal because of the spicy and savory flavors.  I wasn't allowed any cream soups -- only broths.  Also, the brand Better than Bouillon was another great broth for me.  I normally don't like beef broth, but I ate it a lot during that time.

I'll look for Swanson's tortilla broth.  I don't like any type of bullion but it's a treat now.  Thanks for the encouragement.  When did you have your surgery?

I had my surgery on New Year's Eve.  Imagine doing the liquid diet through the holidays.  I remember going to my room and crying when my family was all eating clothespin cookies.  LOL.  Trust me, it's all been worth it so far.  I've learned that I am pretty strong indeed!!

You GOT THIS!!

No, I cannot imagine doing the liquid through the holidays.  You've done a wonderful job!  Thanks so much for your suggestions, special trip to Walmart!  Hopefully they have the bouillon.

I went to Walmart and purchased the Mex tortilla, the Thai spicy and the Chinese hot and spicy.  I told my husband if there was one I didn't like he would have to drink it!  But I think after Optifast just about any flavor will be a treat!

I start week 4 tomorrow and my first 3 days were like that and then I picked up.  I am on 4 shakes a day and water I do mix crystal light in the water sometimes.  I have the odd little tub of jello sugar free but that is all I have.  Once I hit ketosis I was much better.  I have lost 27lbs so far.  Now don't get me wrong there are sometimes that I may have a day where I feel really tired for about an hr but it just goes away if I get up and move.  I have 9 days to go until my surgery and I cant wait.  I wish you all the best and hang in there.  You got this you can do it!  :-)  Val
