Part of the problem is that we carry an enzyme in our stomach that begins metabolizing alcohol the minute it hits the gut.  However, when you have most of your stomach removed guess what else they take?  Yup, most of that enzyme disappears too.  So we absolutely do not metabolize it as efficiently as we used to.  This means that it gets absorbed into the blood stream much quicker, hits our heads quicker and that's the reason for the fast "tipsy" or "buzzed" feeling.

I was a very big drinker before surgery.I could drink a whole bottle of wine with no problem.Feel a little buzzed. Now I drink one glass and I am tipsy.

I like to have a glass once in a while but I always have to make sure I don't start having poor judgement with food after drinking.

Popcorn is a major trigger food so I don't have it in the house.

To add to my previous post,, having seen the other comments!  Our metabolisms may be unchanged but we don't eat much. So drinking is like drinking on an empty stomach. And also, because we drink less often, it can affect us more.

i am currently drinking a large glass of wine. Pre-op  I would have been totally unaffected, I had a very high tolerance for alcohol and whilst driving a car would have been out, no-one would have guessed I had had any alcohol. Now just that one glass will make me very definitely "happy".

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

There are no forbidden foods.  For me, popcorn and wine are foods that do not contribute anything to my health.  The calories are not worth it for me.  At your stage, it would have been an unthinkable situation to sabotage my weight loss with either of those things.

I prefer to have something that will make me more healthy.  When others are going to be having wine and popcorn, I will prepare a cheese and raw vegetable tray with a low calorie dip.  I try to always have something available that others will enjoy and that I can enjoy too.

There are plenty of snack ideas and recipes at the eggface site.  I don't deprive others of what they want, but I do deprive myself, because maintaining my weight loss is what is important to me.

There are no forbidden foods, but I completely gave up rice, breads, flour, potatoes, noodles, sugar, popcorn, alcohol, candy, cookies, ice cream, pasta, et****il I was well into maintenance.

Eating even a small amount of those things now can start me back to gaining weight.  I get on the scale every morning and can directly relate any gain to what I consumed the day before.

It would be very easy for me to go into denial and justify eating the things that I still love to eat.  It is always going to be a matter of making right choices or paying the price of regain.

It is your journey.  You get to decide where you are going and what you are willing to do to get there.  You get to decide when food is more important than losing or maintaining weight.

Real life begins where your comfort zone ends

Right now you are losing rapidly. That will slow down. I find if I drink I do not lose. I am currently trying to lose 10 lbs so trying to stay off the wine until I get back to my goal.

In my preop class, they singled popcorn out as something that can cause an obstruction.  Clearly several people here have eaten popcorn with no problems.
