Topic: RE: Arthritis and weight loss

Hi,I had my RNY 6/2008. My experience with my journey to lose weight has been a battle with my Arthritis. I was in hope that I would get relief by losing 175 lbs.I was 50lbs away from starting my plastic surgery and the doctor said I was not a good candidate.I was heartbroken.I told him due to the arthritis in my spine and hips I was unable to successfully get into the weight range he wanted me too. So,now I have stalled my weight loss and gained 25lbs back.Well, now I am scheduled for hip and spine surgery because it is urgently needed. It has been 6 years and I hope that after this surgery I will be able to regain my mobility to lose 100lbs and come full circle with my weight loss journey

One WC user to another-- I stop the doctor in his tracks with the exercise speech, by handing him a log of all the exercise I do..swimming, PT, some arm bycycle, when i can, my stretches...he knows, and has proof that I am doing all I can.  I hate that speech. I am changing doctors now and I am getting it all over again, even though I am at--actually below--my goal weight. Once a fat girl, always a fat girl.........stigma sucks

I had VSG in April and have ostioarthritis in my hip. I've lost 67 lbs to date. It has helped some with the pain but I still need a replacement.  The wls has put me in a better place for recovery from the surgery.

I have osteoarthritis as well. I am in need of both a hip and a knee replacement.  Have not had surgery yet but last year I lost 100# and I am sorry to say there really was no change in my pain. It is very hard for me to move also and I am not sure how I am going to walk, walk, walk, after surgery as everyone says. If you had surgery yet let me know how your pain is...

Topic: RE: Can Alcohol damage your sleeve?

For some reason this got posted on the Arthritis Forum, I am not sure if that is what you meant. You might get more of a response on the VSG forum. that being said, I've never heard it said alcohol could actually damage anything, esp in such a short amount of time. WLS patients do metabolize things differently.... Hope you are feeling better. Lesson learned right? 4 shots is too many . Good Luck.

So I am almost 3 years post op and I never drink. By never I truly mean I've had maybe 1/2 a glass of wine since my surgery. Until this weekend. I went to a bachelorette party and had shots. 4 in total over the course of 3 hours. I was of course drunk and horribly hung over the next day. I was unable to throw up (not sure why) and two days later my stomach still hurts really bad. I am still nauseated and nothing tastes right. I am wondering if I could have damage my stomach or if I'm just still sick since I don't drink. I am worried because it seems I shouldn't still hurt and be sick two days later but any Experiences and knowledge you can pass on would be greasy. Thanks!

Topic: R/A and VSG surgery

I have had R/A for over a decade, as a result of taking steroids my weight have been like a bouncing ball.

I have been cleared by PCP,cardiologist, nut, psych and i had a EDG, the Dr. found a hiatal hernia. The hernia can be repaired when the vsg is done. I have been cleared for surgery  Scheduled for mid-December  Do anyone have r/a and had vsg?

I have psoriatic arthritis and it was being controlled by oral diclofenac, one pill twice per day.

I was told that one week before surgery, I had to discontinue my arthritis medication. I was in a great deal of pain, but I suffered through it all in the name of getting to surgery day.

Post-op, when I was cleared to start my medications again, I discovered that half of the regular dose (1 pill, once a day) is sufficient. I'm really happy about that. As long as that is managing my pain, my rheumatologist says to carry on doing that.

I hope your surgery went well. Let us know how you're doing. I know my answer is late but maybe you can glean something from it that might be of help to you.

Topic: Diastolic heart failure

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with Diastolic heart failure a condition where the heart does not fully relax. I had just started considering vsg.  Has anyone had surgery with this condition? I'm a little scared to go under the knife at this point.  My Dr wants to do a series of tests to determine if I should go ahead with the surgery but still....I'm scared.
