I am desperate in Ohio to find someone to replace my knee, I'm 35 I've saw 3 docs, its bone on bone, I have no life. This is a result of a work accident.it hurts all the time, I can't walk far, sleep. Its depressing. No doc will do it because I'm 35, ill out live it, which I could care less.anyone ever hear of any orthopedic docs who treat young ppl? I've tried I was a children's hospital with no luck.
Hi, I have spinal stenosis and I had surgery in 2011. I lost over 60 pounds after surgery and yes it helped a great deal but I have since gained all of the weight back and some more so now I am looking for a permanent solution so the pain is less like before. I am having vertical sleeve surgery on 9/24/14 and I am nervous but at the same time my ability to walk and have quality life is motivation for me. Good luck.
I am a year post-op, lost 110 lbs so far and have severe stenosis, disk problems, OA of the facets, etc. The weight loss has really helped with pain (and I highly recommend Cymbalta for the back pain, which is NOT an NSAID and therefore you can take it after WLS.) However, I still have the weakness in my right thigh which caused me to take a bad fall 2 years ago and which put me in a wheelchair so as not to fall again. I am going to a specialist at Johns Hopkins in a few weeks to look at surgery. I was hoping there would be a laproscopic solution after the weight loss, but apparently there is just too much going on with my back. Before I got the WLS I talked to a tango dancer who was all of 5 feet tall and 100 lbs. She had severe stenosis and I knew that the weight loss, while it would relieve some pain and make it easier to get around, would not get rid of the OA and stenosis issues.
And does your WLS doc keep saying "exercise, exercise, exercise" like mine does? Even though he sees I used a wheelchair? I tell him I'd LOVE to exercise and be able to work out and dance again like I used to, but until the weakness in my right leg is fixed (if it can be fixed) then there are certain levels of exercise I just will not be able to do.
I had my VSG on 5/14 - I've got neuropathy and have been using a cane/walker for several years. My back is shot, and both hips and knees kill me. Sometimes my right knee gives way. I'm planning on setting up an appt. with my ortho within the next few weeks -- I'm expecting knee replacement(s) will be in order, and maybe hips as well.
I have noticed some improvements though. The past two days I've done a lot of lawn mowing. Pre-op I had to rest after 10 minutes - to catch my breath and ease my back pain. Now, I've mowed each day for about an hour with no breaks. That's a major victory. My balance also seems to have improved.
I'm being weaned off of large doses of methadone - but will be talking to my doctor of what he plans for pain management now.
To sum it up, I feel better than pre-op, but still have a long way to go. Wish I had WLS years ago - I really wrecked my body.
I have blind loop syndrome from WLS. Please contact me. [email protected] Or Melanie Loyd on facebook. I welcome anyone who is in the same boat.
hello;
Take it from someone who has tried methotrexate, not a good idea.
Your new pouch will fight back!
If you absolutely have to go on that med, you better get something else prescribed to protect not only your pouch but your intestines also.
The rules are different for us.
Extended meds go through you very fast.
If you need answers about what you can and what you can't,
Drop me a line
Put wls in subject line.
I am 13 yrs out
My regular doctor wants me to start taking Methotrexate every day for the rest of my life. Is this medication safe for RNY patients?
No, I had no side effects and after a short time on high doses I now take the normal dosage.
Hello, I'm reading this 4 years later, and was wondering about your total knee. Are you glad that you did it and would you do it again. I'm 45 and I need a total knee, but my doctor wants me to wait. I would love to hear about how you are doing.
