HEY BAF!!!

I haven't posted in this forum in a LONG time!!!  Most of the veterns that was on here while I was on here (2004-2008) are on my Facebook page so I usual chat there!!!

But anyway in case you not on my FB page I just wanted to update that I got a RNY over RNY revision done June 28, 2012.  After 6 years of doing very well....or what I thought was very well I acquired 3 ulcers.  (taking motrin, aleve, not taking my vitamins, drink too much liquor, smoking, not eating properly, and stress)

Only look back in life to know where you DON'T want to go

Both he and his sister Santita have the DS. It was during the time I worked in Chicago as a radio news reporter... Mid to late 1990's. At one point, he was over 350 pounds, and Santita was pretty close to 300.

I believe at the time they had theirs, the DS was still considered experimental in the US.

SMO due to prednisone for lupus helped me up to my high weight, but sice the weight loss, I can move around much better, but I still have to pace myself.

Unfortunately, lupus and fibromyalgia took me out of my profession, on disability, and I'm working furiously to find another, which is kinder to my body, although, at 54, time is running out for me.

HW 405/SW 397/CW 138/GW 160  Do the research!  Check the stats!
The DS is *THE* solution to Severe Morbid Obesity!

Topic: RE: Geez, Louise!!!
My surgery was scheduled about six weeks after my initial visit and I cancelled it two weeks prior because I did not trust the office bull**** the surgeon allowed.  His nurse practitioner wife thought she was running my health care show.  He is an excellent surgeon; has operated on family; and is the choice of staff doctors having wls.  Still, this was not for me.

If you are uncomfortable
you have a problem.  The resolution is get things straight directly with the doctor bypassing the office staff.  No resolution?  You have some contemplation ahead.

Are you willing to live with this situation over a long term relationship?  Should you have more involved follow up needs, do you trust this wls practice to care for your best interests?  In your geographic area will you have your choice of other surgeons willing to take you on if there are complications and you are not confident in this surgeon's approach?

The UHC provider directory (sign in to ensure you get providers for your plan type) will give you a list of options available.  You can also call to the surgical pre approval/  managed care line for other surgeons in your plan.  They want to pay for another sleep study even less than you want to take one.

I delayed six months in the end but transferring my approval from one doc to another with UHC/ BCBS was a non event.  I picked up my file and hand delivered it to the new surgeon.  Different hospital and in another state.   They re submitted my paperwork for immediate approval.  Nothing had to be re done as all tests were current within six months.

Go with your comfort zone.  Hopefully your outcome will be as good as mine what ever you decide.

It took me about 8 years & several reconsidered procedures to get there.  We need to be positive.  Use that nervous energy to increase your physicaL activity.

My advise to you is no "last meals" sks binges.  Food will not go out of style as you are loosing and your smaller liver will make the surgeons job easier.  Back off the carbs now to help shrink the liver and help reduce any fatty liver issues.

Second, post often.  Hit the board for your surgey month where they are going through this with you right now.  Post on here BAF and answer other posts so we keep supporting each other.  Little things, big things, nonsense, current events, whatever.  Someone likely shares your concerns and we all need a release.

Last, relax and enjoy the ride.  It will have its frustrations but in the end it will all be worth it.  Congratulations.

Topic: RE: why were we overweight in the first place
Obesity can have its roots in the physical, spiritual, emotional, and all of the above.  You've made a huge leap in recognizing that this is not one dimentional.  One size does not fit all.  We are not a stereotype.  Our issues with food and weight will vary over our life times.  Congratulations in finding this important element to recovery.
