Topic: RE: Hi I am new and having surgery in June
Hi Bonnie, I haven't suffered a stroke, so I can't help you there.  I do know that alot of people have had children after WLS.  The surgery may be the best decision you make.  It has put my diabetes into remission, and I feel better than I have in years.

I hope that your home is okay, I noticed that you're in Mississippi.  I used to live in Natchez.

Take care,
Sue

Topic: RE: Newly diagnosed Type 1

My doctor actually thought of dropping it down but then decided on the after meals.   I think I will ask him about lowering it again at my next appointment.

When you first found out how long did it take till you had your levels even out?   It has been almost a month now and I am still so up and down.   I seem to be eating constantly.

Does it get any easier?   Yesterday I was running low after lunch (65).  Not too bad but I think I feel the best when it is around the low hundreds.   But then before bedtime I was at 291.   It this very high?

Thank you so much for responding.  I really appreciate it.

Oh I hope everything works out for you.  This really stinks.  I will tell you a little more about how I felt so you can compare.   Like I said I was very tired all the time.  I would fall asleep sitting up on the couch.  I could not eat.  I actually thought it was something with my pouch.  Like scar tissue or something.   My mouth was very dry and I could not get enough water.   Even my eyeballs were dry.   And I was urinating constantly.  Also and this is what sent me to the hospital.  My heart was pounding with the slightest movement.    And  I would get light headed.

Hope some of this info helps you out.  And again.  Good luck.

Topic: RE: Hypoglycemia 7 months post op?
Hi! I'm almost four years out and a type 1 diabetic. I still have crashes, but its' MY usual. I'll never get rid of my diabetes, but the WLS has helped me handle it much better. How are you treating your lows now? For me, juice makes me feel ill, but if I cut it w/water (at my surgeon's suggestion)  I do better...however, Target sells glucose tablets (the citrus flavors are best) which don't make me dump and raise my sugar acceptably. It's normal to crash while your body goes through its transformation. :) Give yourself time, and absolutely seek your endo's adivce.

Be well,
Marie

Could you drop your mealtime insulin down to 2 units? Maybe not wait a full 15 minutes before eating? I became type 1 diabetic at the age of 35(6 years ago), and it hasdefinitely been a challenge for me as well. At first I was running low alot, but now I seem to be running high.

Topic: RE: Has anyone been able to talk their insurance company out of...
I had a huge amount of documentation from my doctor regarding my attempts at weight loss, and I was surprised that my insurance waived the 6 months - but then it took 5 months of all the other hoops to get to the surgery. I was impatient at times, but realistically, it went pretty quickly. Like you, I did this in the hopes of losing my diabetes, and the weight loss has been pretty entertaining so far. My numbers are really down, so I'm thrilled. It was definitely worth the wait. Just do what you have to - the time won't go faster or slower and you'll get there. My best advice is to start walking if you haven't - I'm able to walk a mile now because I could walk over 2 before, and I think it got me stronger and is now helping my recovery. I feel great. You'll get there - don't give up. It's a process, and you have a goal. Good luck, KJ

I was wondering if anyone know of person who had suffered a stroke and then did weightloss surgery?
I had been procrasting having the surgery because I was hoping to have one more child, but the day I was told I got a job, my world turned upside down.  2 hours after I received the news I had a stroke.  I went to work 10 days after.  I was hoping to talk to someone who had the same events as me.

Thanks
Bonnie

Topic: Blood sugar too high?
I'm a pre-op but I have some concerns  that I am hoping those who have experience with diabetes can help me with.
I started checking my blood sugar this past week again as I have some issues with blurred vision, dizzi-ness and heart palpitations not associated with anything else I can think of. My blood sugar has consistently been over 100 no matter what time of the day I take it or what if anything I have or have not eaten. (112 at 10 minutes after waking no food or liquids as of 6:30pm the night before. 128 within 2 hours of eating a salad with creamy italian dressing and having a Vitamin water and a cup of coffee with cream and sugar) I am concerned that maybe I have diabetes creeping up on me in addition to the high cholestrol. I do have a history of hypoglycemia which is why I have a glucose meter and know how to use it but before I was watching for really low glucose levels and was always happy when I could spend a whole day in the 75 to 80 range (no dizziness or blurry vision stuff) Now I see it's shot up to over the 100s and I don't know if that is something I need to be alerting my doc to or not.
I am having bloodwork done again on Friday but for the hyperlipidemia and not sure if they will automatically test blood glucose at that time. But maybe I should ask if they can?
I guess it's a good thing I am having things checked now because anything unusual I am catching right away. But it can be exhausting trying to keep up with everything. I just need to know if I should be keeping track more stringently (like before I take my vites and before bed and when I wake up) or if Im just worrying for nothing.
