Leave it to me to get "too big" and "too small" for my britches at the same time!!
Well, I've now lost about 140 pounds in 8 months (my weigh-in is next week). But I must be getting "too big for my britches" because I got a royal comeuppance the other day.
On Saturday night, I was having an impassioned conversation with a school mom about prejudice and I said it sickens me how obesity is one of the last, acceptable forms of prejudice. She agreed and said "by the way, you KNOW you're not fat anymore, right?" I of course told her that I am still technically obese at 204 pounds and have at least 40 more pounds to go to simply be "overweight." She said "whatever" and we laughed and moved on. But I felt pretty damn good in that moment.
About 15 hours later, I am standing in line with my son for a pony ride at a pumpkin farm and a woman we were chatting with behind us says "wow, you have a 6 year old and a 2 year old and you are expecting another one--that's a lot of work." I said "I'm not pregnant, just fat." She says, "oh, well then, it must be the baby weight left over from your little one." I said "No, I'm just fat." (I only gained 8 pounds with each pregnancy, so I know that's not it!)
Man, I felt like crap. I know my tummy fat is still there. I have to pu**** out of the way to read my scale. In her defense, I was wearing one of those tops that are popular now with a looser front, so it could have looked like a maternity top. My husband and friend I was with said that was bull and it's clear that I do NOT look pregnant and that I should just write her off as a nutty old lady who should not be allowed to speak in public.
To come this far and hear this comment just hit me hard, I guess. This journey keeps having interesting twists and turns.

I agree, it's the style of the top. I just recently bought 2 of them. In my MO days I would never have even considered it being an option. I had one on the other day and at a certain angle the shirt was kinda pooching out and I thought "Does this shirt make me look pregnant? " I know it's the latest fashion craze but I'm not sure if I can pull it off at my age...LOL Just shake it off and realize how great you have done and you really do look amazing Nicolle.

sorry that happened, it does hurt at times especially when we have come so far and yet technically we may still be overweight or even obese at the end of the journey. It all depends on where you start, and how much "excess" skin, connective tissue and fat cells you have left over.
now a caveat..........clothing if it looks like it could be found in a maternity store be careful!!
if it looks like you were poured into it-sports stretch lycra type clothing, be carefull it will accentuates any bumps and curves you have...
I know the suggestion I am about to make may make you shudder, go to the mall go to a store with 3 way mirrors and try on many different styles. Some will look good from the front, but not from the back. You also can read different womans magazines and get ideas for dressing for your figure. The best book I have seen is by the two British woman (they have their own show )one is tall & lean, one is shorter but curvy.......they have a great book with lots of picutures showing styles that work for each body type.
I no longer try to dress too trendy, but rather find the best style for me and wear the clothes in that style.

Hi Nicolle,
I am sorry that you were hurt, I know that statement can be one of the hardest to hear. I will tell you about me and maybe it will help. On my way "up" in weight, I had a few people ask me or even my husband when I was due. Man it hurt really bad, at the time it started about 7 years ago I was about 40-50 pounds overweight. When I crossed over about 70 pounds the comments stopped and I just assumed people knew I wasn't pregnant I was just fat. I almost miss those comments because now they don't bother with the question because they can tell, hey your just fat. I don't know if it can make you feel better, but I always thought - I would rather look like a skinny pregnant person than just a plain old fat person... ya know? Or maybe thats just my warped way of dealing with it hehe
