So as to not get lost in the trainwreck.....

A couple of things that I've never heard of before came up....

1)  If you eat too much or too hard foods early out, you can cause a leak?  I don't think I've ever heard of that.

2)  Your nose starts running when your tummy gets full?  Again, a new thing for me.

Otherwise, that thread scares me.  LOL.

You've never heard of #2?  Wow - happens to me all the time.  My nose runs every time I'm full.  Occasionally sneezing or hiccups but usually runny nose. I've seen loads of other people mention it too.  (I'm going nowhere near that thread now)

As to #2, yes ..  that's a Vagus nerve reaction (the Vagus - the major nerve that runs throughout the torso and neck - runs close to the stomach/sleeve) ..  The pressure of the full sleeve pushes against it and can cause hiccups, runny noise, watery eyes, sneezing  etc. , almost like an allergy/hayfever episode ..   Someone posted a med journal article about that reaction on here some time back ..  Strange, but true ..

I don't think I have ever heard anyone say they suffered a leak on here as a result of eating too much food, but only from surgical complications resulting from the original sleeve formation .. (esp. w. revisions) ..  I guess it would be possible to "disrupt" the sleeve staple line w. too much food chronically, like RNYers sometimes have happen with their pouch over time, though ..

But, #2 may lessen/disappear after some time has passed.  It did happen to me early out, now (I'm over 2.5 years out) it never happens.  So, just sayin'.

Number one, I've never heard.  I can't imagine eating too much early out, because it hurt me to eat so much as a bite too much of anything.  You'd have to eat past the point of agony, in my opinion, to make that happen.  Who's going to do that?

Number two, I haven't had that happen to me, but I've heard of it happening.  I get hiccups instead.

I think a bunch of other people said what I would've on that thread, so I didn't feel the need to add my $0.02.

You do need to be careful with what you eat early out. I can't say I've heard of anyone causing a leak with food, but you could certainly hurt yourself with food that doesn't go through smoothly. There's a lot of swelling, healing, and scarring going on at that point. Be especially careful to follow your surgeon's instructions if he sews with a ring.

As for #2, my nose ran for probably 1-2 months straight. It never was related to being full or not. I do get hiccups sometimes if I am full. As someone else said, it's all about the vagus nerve.

Never heard anything here about #1

Regarding #2, I had my VSG in 2004 and I  *still* get the runny nose and sneezes if I take that one last bite.  If I stop before then, I have 1-2 light hiccups.

I am not sure what thread to which you are referring, however, on #2, my Mother, who had never had WLS always had a runny nose after eating, so it is not unique to us.  I get a very loud combination burp/hiccup.  As to #1 I  haven't a clue.

I find it really had to achieve #1, but #2 is totally true, and add to it a couple of hiccup signals for me.
