Anyone know of surgeons who will do the DS on folks with Low BMIs?

Caprice-

I have not met the surgeon yet and won't until next month.  He's on the DS Facts list and I have been in contact with a couple of his patients, so yes, a true DS surgeon.

I'm looking at Houston in Nashville right now and if it doesn't work out will continue with Plans B-Z.

I think I was a 36 or 37 bmi when I first saw Dr. Keshishian. I have chronic hypertension plus he indicated that I was suffering from insulin resistance.  By the time my surgery rolled around four months later I was a 38 or 39.

So yes, there are surgeons who will perform the DS on lightweights.  The only issue I had was with my insurance and it was a fight over lap vs open for my DS.

Good luck

My BMI is 41, sometimes 42 (with a few pounds added)  I have this paranoia about not being able to get my DS because I don't have a larger BMI.  Maybe it is because I've read somewhere that surgeons typically like to reserve the DS for those with larger BMIs.  Yes, maybe I'm being ridiculous but I have this fear that surgeons might try to steer me towards an RNY instead, mainly because of my PCOS and metabolic sydrome and my low BMI.  No, I have not met with a surgeon yet but do not wish to waste my time with a surgeon who will not do the DS on me.  It's DS or bust.
Keshishian did my revision for maintanence. My BMI was 27 when I consulted with him.

My bmi was right around 40 the day I had surgery, no problems with my surgeon or my insurance company over my choice of surgery.

My BMI was 39 when Dr. Keshishian did my revision.

Is your surgeon from the DSFacts list or OH list?

I am looking at Houston in Nashville.  Dr. Spaw is also in Nashville but I don't know yet if either would agree to take on a light weight.

My BMI was 39.  Kaiser's WL surgeon, said I wasn't big enough for WLS.  2 grievances later, and I had my DS with Dr Rabkin.  I did have diabetes, hbp, high cholesterol...  all are now normal.
