I wanted to ask if anyone knows about this? Dr. Stewart office offers the once a year Vit D shot, I just ask my PCP office do the have this shot and his nurse just told me no such shot exist. Is the shot a new thing that many have not heard of yet? I would much rather have a once a year shot than take the pill daily.

Most docs haven't heard of it because injected vitamin D is usually something that's done in only a certainly patient population, particularly certain people with kidney disease on dialysis.

I think it's wonderful that Dr. Stewart offers this. Very forward thinking of him. But it's not going to replace any pills. You're still going to have to take supplemental vitamin D. The Tender D3 50,000 IU capsule is TINY, and I'm sure the other strengths are as well.

Yep! I'm getting it too. I'll be returning to Denton for my 1 year checkup- while I'm there I'm going to snag a vitamin D shot. I asked my PCP in NYC if they offer it too, but sadly they don't (but they admitted it was a great idea).

Ahhh, thank you for the explanation.  I was so perplexed wondering why I only saw his patients getting this.  I was on the lookout to see if anyone on the message board got them from anyone else.  Now it makes sense to me.

I get the shot from Dr Stewart and take my D daily.  Will see how my labs look this week to see if it helps!  Last time labs were perfect, so I have high hopes!

I think the shot is a good idea for a tiny boost, but the amount that it raises D isn't monstrous.  You'll still need to take additional D--this is just going to hopefully improve your overall D status.

I got the shot and I do not take additional D.  I think it depends on how much D you have.  My D is in the 50's which is higher then when I was just taking the pills.  I have had my blood drawn every 3 months since my shot and it has gone up by about 3 points every time.

I would not personally be happy with a D in th 50s.  I am shooting for 100+ and wish I could get an injection to help boost the Dry D I am taking.
