Topic: RE: Fibromyagia and WLS?
Hi there, I too haven't been on here in years.  I've been more on the fibro forums lately just searching for some answers.  I've always had chronic neck and shoulder pain, but in the last few years have experienced alot of pain in my hips, lower back, knees and ankles, which surprised me after losing 120 lbs and being at somewhat of a normal weight (150).  I've wondered if the WLS surgery and the others that I've had (open gallbladder, 4 c-sections, yep 4 kids just like you...lol, WLS and anchor tummy tuck) have been some of the cause or at least brought more of it out!  It's helpful to hear that someone else is experiencing the same thing!  Good luck!

Topic: RE: Could it have caused it?
I have recently returned this forum after being away from it for several years, actually I've been hanging out at the fibro forums, but haven't come across too many people that have had both WLS and now fibro.  I had many surgeries (gallbladder, 4 c-sections, WLS, and anchor tummy tuck) and have been wondering if these traumas could of been what caused the fibro.  I am reading quite a bit on here and believing that their is a correlation.  I see a rhemy in January but am pretty convinced that is what I have.  Been fighting it for years, but the pain has just continuously gotten worse and can't deny it any longer.  If you get any further info about this I would appreciate it as well and I will mention this to my dr. when I go, thanks for the input.....Jennifer

Topic: RE: Has WLS eased your FM?

Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my post. I want to help my friend any way I can. She now joins me when I take my daily walk, she has been making it about every other day. I try to walk about 3 miles a day, plus I take dance/fitness class 3 times a week.

I know my friend can't participate as much as I do because of her Fibro and it bothers her. It is a horrible cycle. I have been reading and I will ask her if she's been to a pain clinic yet. It seems most of you ladies are under the care of of.

Again, thank you so much for your help. I'm sure you're going to see a lot of me after the new year. I'm trying to get my friend to sign up here, but she doesn't really like computers and isn't very good with any electronics. She has trouble buzzing me into her gated community from her condo - every day :)

Blessings,

Shauna

Topic: RE: weight gain and fibro
I would guess that fibro has caused all of us to gain weight to some extent because like you say it plain hurts to exercise. I know I have to really force myself to even get out of bed some days. This is also a tuff time of year to get back on track. Myself I've set Jan.1 as get back to work day. Don't beat yourself up for gaining especially if you are dealing with sciatica. Just try to take it one day at a time and be kind to yourself!

Sorry to say it's pretty much the concensus here that the surgery doesn't help with the fibro pain. It may give her some relief from joint pain but the muscle pain from the fibro is a whole different issue and most likely won't go away. She'll still get great benefits from the surgery tho!

I would imagine that it could have, anything that stresses the body whether physical or emotional can trigger fibro from what I've read. Just don't decide to beat yourself up for having the surgeries tho because you just never know what for sure will trigger it.

i had rny surgery 9-27-09, i too have FM, hoping that maybe that i would feel better.
well, i do move better, able to get some excersize, but all in all i still have flares, that
are almost unbearable. in general the same achiness, and exhausted. i dont think i
have gained all my momentum yet from  surgery had a minor set back with an ulcer.
that wiped me out, so i am hoping by spring(warmer weather), more wgt off maybe
the flares at least wont be so bad or last as long.

Topic: RE: Cortisone Shot?
I have fibro. & sometimes Drs. will blame fibro. for any aches & pain we have. I had the shoulder pain for about 6mo. It was so painful I felt like just having arm taken off. Finally a Orthepedic Dr. diagnosed it a Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Went to PT where they knew what treatment would work best for it. Finally after 4 wks., the pain went away. Now I know when shoulder hurts what to do to prevent it from acting up.
I hope the pain has eased up & you found the problem.
Take care

Thanks so much. I am trying to help a friend, be supportive and stay informed to assist her in recovery and this new lifestyle change. She isn't changing her mind and the WLS isn't because of the FM.

Thanks again,

Shauna
