Hate to rain on your parade but losing the weight won't necessarily help your fibro. Getting the weight off your joints will for sure help but you will still have fibro issues, they may not be quite as bad but it won't go away completely. See my post below yours about addiction. I've done considerably reading on the subject. There's a huge difference between drug addicts seeking a high and folks who use pain meds to control pain. It depends on the reason for taking them.My personal opinion is that there is noway I'm gonna suffer this pain without narcotic med because they are all that works.  However I also only use them when needed, when I'm feeeling good I take a minimum dose and when I'm in tears I take as much as I safely can.  Good luck and hope your bypass gets ok'd soon.

Hi new here. I have fibromyalgia and I will be getting gastric bypass with in next few months hopefully . I know my weight is not helping with my fibro but here in the last few weeks I have been swollen and for the past few months been waking up in pain.  I will admit I do feel better when I am eating correctly but the pain still there. Dr gave me some water pills does help some. I am just so worried about my knees blowing out before I can get this bypass done. For the fibro I am taking a muscle relaxer and per scribed medicine. Started with 50 mg now on 75 doc said I can up it to 100 or even 150 if need be. I do not like pain meds in fear of addictions. My pain doctor has already informed me that I am already a addict not one of seeking but having to take 4 hydro's a day for the past three months there is no way I wouldn't be. Got news for him I quit taking 4 a day because what he said. So I deal with the pain. Just had surgery in December on a rupture disk in the neck.  Is there any other way then pain meds to deal with the fibro pain.

Yes any stress and surgery is a stress can flare us but when it is all "settled" you'll be glad you had the surgery.
Good luck and keep us informed how you are doing.

I had my surgery in 2004 and was not "diagnosed" with fibro until 2007.  I believe that I have been suffering from it probably since before surgery.  I did go through the pain clinic but after a while there is only so much they can do besides prescribed more pain meds or more injections.  Right now I take Loritab Elixor every 3-4 hours and Morphine 3 times a day for the pain.  I also take Requip for my restless leg, Premarin, and another hormone regulator because I have no hormones left, I take Lyria for the fibro - tried Cymbalta at the same time and ended up suicidal.  I just started Albien CR for sleep - was on Lunesta before and it quit working.  I truly hate the pain and the exhaustion that makes even putting the toilet paper on the roll seem overwhelming.  I keep waiting for it to let up but seems to be a 24/7 thing I have to learn to deal with.  Dealing with the fibor and getting in my protein is all I can deal with at this point - Good luck to all of you.

Yep, unfortunately any stress including surgery can set off a flare. Don't worry too much about addiction unless you have adiction issues already. People who take pain meds don't automatially get addicted, in the same sense as drug abusers. They are looking for a high, we are only seeking pain relief, it's a whole different situation. While we are addicted in the sense that we will have withdrawls if we quit cold turkey, we can be weaned off the drugs without having the desire to continue using. An abuser is using fir different reasons which tend to be more phsycological than physical. People who use narcotics for physical pain relief tend to use less than those who abuse for mental pain relief. So don't suffer needlessly because of a fear of addiction. Just don't over use when they aren't needed. Hope your flare settles down soon.

I had my RNY in January and had not had a fibro flare in over a year, now I wi**** would just ease a little and I'd be happy. The day after surgery I felt that familiar body ache and muscle pain. Has anyone else had surgery set off a flare? I am currently on Cymbalta 60 mg a day, Neurontin 600 mg 4 X day, Ultram ER 200 mg at bedtime and Ultracet, Valium and Demerol as needed.  when I take the Demerol and Valium I get a pain vacation but I try not to do that to often because I'm scared of addiction.

Cause you're a good woman and love your poor hubby and didn't want him to do all that alone, I'm sure he appreciated it! Now many long hot baths are in order and some gentle stretching to keep those muscles from getting too tight. Maybe you could convince your doc you really hurt, or pulled a muscle and could get dome good pain meds? Best wishes

So, weve had about 50" of snow in the last week.  Weve been lucky though, our neighbor has a snow blower- so we havent had to shovel out much.  Well, our last storm dumped 18" of heavy wet snow on us yesterday.  With blizzard conditions, it was pointless to go out to shovel.  Plus, we kinda got spoiled and thought we could borrow the blower again...  Well, we were wrong.  Our neighbor had to go into work today, no snow blower for us.  So DH went out to begin to shovel out.  We have a LONG, HUGE driveway, a big section of sidewalk, a big front porch and walk, the back patio, window wells to the basement and the heat pump that all have to be dug out.  I was feeling guilty that DH had to tackle all this alone.  SO- I went out to help him.  Dumb, dumb, dumb.  Im already in a flare, what the hell was I thinking?  I was out shoveling from 11am till 5pm.  Did I mention Im still pre-op and weigh 275lbs?  Dumb, dumb, dumb...  Im shaking Im in so much pain.  Im so exhausted I cant see straight.  My back, hips, knees, shoulders, elbows and hands are all so tight and sore.  Im going to feel like I wa**** by a Mack truck tomorrow.  I AM AN IDIOT!  Ugh.  Why do I do this to myself when I know better?

Topic: RE: Is is me or is this the WORST winter EVER for us with Fibromyalgia?
Thank you so much for your kind words and support. I am sorry to have taken so long to reply. I am now watching TWO dogs. Who are trying so hard to be good but one is older and one is a puppy. They are being very sweet to each other for the most part. We are snowed in again! I did move from one house to another-so the change of scenery is nice. As is the fact that these people hired someone to plow the driveway and shovel the walk. The other family can't get home from LA. I was fortunate to get to my pain doctor to get refills. We opted not to change anything because of the change in weather. She told me not to shovel (forgot to get that in writing!)! I too know together with each others support we can survive this winter. I am not one to post a whole lot but I do check in. Please feel free to PM me too!

Hang in there, keep warm, safe and in good spirits!

Topic: RE: Now i need a shoulder replacement
Hi Pam I had my left shoulder reconstructed back in 2007 I am thankful I had it done will I ever do it again no. My doctor at the time stated I will need a new complete shoulder in about ten years. I will just deal with it lol. I hope you do have some one at home to assist you in your daily activitys. I am thankful I did have it done I can use my shoulder now. Once in a while it will pop back in but I no longer have the pain in my shoulder.
