Topic: RE: Fibro and WLS? The verdict?
Sorry to say but that seems to be the story for the majority of us. You will of course lose some pain just by getting the weight off of your joints and by being more active. Unfortunately most of us continue to have the fibro pain. On the brite side tho you'll look great while you are in pain!If you can improve even one medical issue tho it's worth it to get the surgery, best of luck to you!

Hellow fellow sufferers.

I just got my referral.  I am excited.  When/if  I am approved,  a whole lot of my medical problems might go away when I lose the weight.  However, I have heard that fibro doesn't change.  Is this true?

I've was diagnosed with fibro in '94.

Thanks.

Topic: RE: doctor trouble

I had a DS paid for by Medicare.  It's wise to do the 6 months anyway, because that way, you are covered on all sides.

It's true, the DS does not cure GERD (acid reflux) but I have no problem with having to take a proton pump inhibitor for the rest of my life.  I also had Barrett's esophagus from the acid reflux pre-op, but I wanted the long term success of the DS. Nexiuum for a year cleared up the Barrett's.

Medicare only covers two bariatric surgries, RNY gastric bypass and the DS.  I had co morbidties and a BMI >50, so approval was a piece of cake.  The waiting was the worst!
I was required to do six months of support group and  a pre-op class prior to surgery. If you have Medicaid (low income based), they will pick up what Medicare doesn't pay for your surgery.

My weight gain, helped along by long term prednisone, was making my disbilities worse (lupus and fibromyalgia) so my surgery was already medically necessary.

Look into the DS.  It is highly malabsorptive, so there is a stringent routine, but with the DS, if PPI's haven't worked for you before, they probably will after the DS.   You will have less gastric tissue, producng less acid, because 3/4 of your stomach is removed.  with the RNY, after about 2 or 3 years, you will lose most of your malbsorption, and you may gain your weight back.

Malabsorption and restriction are forever with the DS, and it's a really hard surgery to mess up by gaining weight.

Topic: RE: Fibro and Germany Don't Mix!!!
Wow it's hard enough to have fibro but to be stuck far from home and familiar health care is awful! Sleep is soooo important to us fibro sufferers! Don't know if it would help you or if you can get it over there but I found diphenhydramine works wonders in helping me go to sleep and usually sleep thru the night. Sending you a bigand feel free to come here and vent anytime, there is usually someone here!

So after many many ER visits and doctors visits they finally say that I have Fibromyalgia. Well thats great except for we just got stationed here in Germany. There is no hospital here where we are only a small clinic and they have tried me on countless meds and even sent me to mental health but still in pain and aggravated. I can't sleep since the insomnia is kicked in high gear and was finally told today that they had tried me on all the sleep and Fibro meds they could think of and they did not understand why nothing is working. I just wanna be somewhere warm and atleast have family close to help on my bad days.

Topic: RE: No NSAIDS at all after WLS?
I have fibro and severe migraines. I had the sleeve (1 week ago) b/c you CAN take NSAIDS after and you never can after RNY.  I cant take them now post op, and think it will be a few months until i am totally healed that I can take them again.  Even then, Im sure you still have to use caution - dont take on empty stomach, etc.  NSAIDS are the only thing that help my pain so might want to look at sleeve if you are in the same boat.

Topic: RE: Adrenal Fatigue?

Hi Tonya,

I've been dealing with Endocrinologists for over 17 years due to having Cushings Disease. Most mainstream Endos don't recognize Adrenal Fatigue as a true illness, unfortunately.  It's very frustrating.  The best thing to do is to find a Naturopathic doctor.  Do a search on the Internet for one in your area.  Good Luck!

Topic: ER. addict
I have to tell this story it wasnt funny at the time but I laugh now. Well my being sick all came to a head today been sleeping all day soar barley moved most of the day looked around the house at evrything that needed dont but felt to miserable to do it. You know one of those days you wonder how your going to make it. Well I remember when i first got fibro it was after gallbladder surgery i thought i was dieing and felt like it to. My x husband was an ass and didnt understand the pain i was in or care and beleived the doctors that would say things like shes just panicking or its in her head. Well i would beg him to take me to the ER. i didnt care the cost i was the one working and the one who had to pay for it anything to ease the pain. Well since he wouldnt take me and i couldnt handle going though this anymore a few times i would sneek to ER from work and have my partner at work cover for me good thing hospital was across the street from work. Even the nurses wouldnt be kind about it id hear them talking to the doctors saying shes just having anough panick attack and things like this id tell the doctor when he walked in no i wasnt there was something wrong etc. they never listened. Any way one time on one of my trips they doped me up yes felt so much better thought i was done so i walked out a nuse came running after me acused me of trying to sneek out and told me if i got in my car she would have me aressted for driving why druged wow i was going across the street back to work. witch i did i walked and sent some one to get my car then went home 2 hours later. Its pretty sad when you hide er visits lol glad i divorced him
