Is the issue that you can't take pills...can you get injections or anything?  NSAIDS are the only thing that help my fibro pain.  I've tried savella and others and they just made me crazy and didn't help.

I realy want WLS but don't knopw if I can handle life after weight loss if I have to deal with undiluted pain.  ; (

Well I've read that the VSG is the only surgery except the band, but I would never advise anyone to get a band, where you can take NSAIDs. It may depend on how often you have to take them. I can't take them anyway because I use blood thinners. I believe the issue is that it is too irritating to the stomach lining. There are other fibro meds such as lyrica, cymbalta and savella that work pretty well for some. My doc ended up putting me on morphine and oxycodone because I was using too much tylenol trying to ease my pain. He said the tylenol was harder on my kidneys and liver than the narcotics would be. I would suggest you find a good either rheumatologist or pain specialist to work with as they are the ones in the know about fibro. Good luck!

I still take NSAIDS. I was worried about that when the surgeon said Lapband was the best surgery for me. He said it was okay for me to keep taking them. I am going to a new surgeon now,( the other one moved) he has my med list and did not say anything. I will try to remember and ask him at my next visit.

Hi Diane

Think twice about the lap band.....been there, done that....had a revision to RNY. If your a big sweet eater....step away from the band....lol. I take celebrex but I am 6 years out.....you can take NSAIDS with the VSG.....and eat sugar too...( I am so bad..lol) either way....good luck and don't be afraid...

I defninitely have sugar issues and also have a friend who had a lap band and then later had a RNY.  I think that's probably the best option for me...but with my severe fibromyalgia and not being able to take most medications, I don't want to help my weight at the expense of being in a lot of pain daily.  Agh!

Thanks, everyone, for your replies!

I have fibro and severe migraines. I had the sleeve (1 week ago) b/c you CAN take NSAIDS after and you never can after RNY.  I cant take them now post op, and think it will be a few months until i am totally healed that I can take them again.  Even then, Im sure you still have to use caution - dont take on empty stomach, etc.  NSAIDS are the only thing that help my pain so might want to look at sleeve if you are in the same boat.
