Vent away, that's what we are here for and only we really understand. I agree with Anna on TV they show this very put together person with a look of dsicomfort on her face. What they need to show is someone like me, a fat old broad in sweats, writhing in pain, in bed and looking like hell. That would be a more accurate picture tho not too attractive for an ad! Maybe you can get some stronger meds to take as needed for after work when you can get some rest, rest helps more than anything sometimes. Good luck with work.
Topic: RE: Ranting about the pain
Feel free to rant! You are very correct when you said that most of us are programmed to just "suck it up" and deal with the pain. The biggest problem is that people don't understand anything about FM and only know what the T.V. tells them about it, and that's usually, if someone says they are in pain and the docs can't figure it out then it's FM. My favorite is that it's psychological!! I am going to start taking Lyrica this very day and I'm terrified that it will slow down my progress or make me gain weight. I am so sorry that you have to go to work feeling the way you do! We all can relate, so rant on!!
Topic: Ranting about the pain
Sorry gang but I am having a bad pain day however, i am not looking for a pity party because I know this is my own damn fault. I am not on anything for my FMS because like a lot of people on here I have been "programmed" to suck it up and drive on when it comes to my FMS and pain levels. Most of the time I can deal with it by taking OTC pain relievers but then there are days like today when I sit here hurting from my scalp to my heels and think "idiot you should have stayed on the stuff that helped even a little" because I know for a fact that the OTC stuff isnt going to touch this pain today. But of course I wasn't happy with the side effects of anything they put me on and figured I could just tough it out.(Insert Superwoman graphic here) Knowing that here in a few minutes I am going to have to go off to work feeling like this makes me want to cry and I wonder if a flare is reason enough to go to the ER and call in sick to work. Because if I call in sick to work they are definitely going to want a doctors note. Which is stupid since the ER can't really do anything about it except shoot me full of Toradol and send me home. But with the pain in my stomach AND the flare, I don't know how the heck I am going to make it to 5 o'clock. I have vicoden left over from a dental visit but if I take one Ill be asleep in 20 minutes. but if i don't take something i will have a migraine to go along with the flare and the tummy cramps by 3 o'clock. Crap! I am feeling mightily stupid this morning.
Sorry everyone I just needed to get that out of my system. And it's something else I need to talk to my doc about when I see her again.

Topic: RE: xpost: Does WLS surgery help with IBS
Can't say for sure because I don't have it but I would doubt it just based on the fact that WLS doesn't help fibro at all. Yes it will help joint pain from extra weight but not the muscle pain from fibro. Hopefully someone else will pop in that actually has it and give you a better answer.
Topic: RE: A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL...MAYBE?
I too gained weight with Lyrica. And 40 pounds in 6 weeks wasnt due to my eating more. In point of fact I wasnt very hungry at all most of the time. My best friend who also has FMS was put on Lyrica and gained 100 pounds and I know for a fact that woman physically works hard every day all day (she builds and maintains fences for the farms in her area in addition to a 1/2 acre "garden") So for the 2 of us it wasn't about how much we were eating that caused us to gain weight. It had to be the medication. Both of us are off of it now and while she has lost the weight I have not been so fortunate. Thus the reason i am here
I don't mean to scare you away from something that may help you though. I would suggest that you try it and see how things go with it for you. Every body is different and you may have success with it where I did not. Good luck!!! :D

Topic: xpost: Does WLS surgery help with IBS
I posted this on the main board as well but wanted to post it here too since its relevant to both.
I have IBS connected with my FMS. For those of you that have had any type of weight loss surgery AND have fibro as well... does the surgery help with the IBS or is that simply something you have found you are going to have to live with since its connected with the FMS?

Topic: RE: Sex and chronic pain
One position that works for my partner and I is spooning, him behind me. I let him know if I am having a flare (its hard not to notice since I cant even get out of bed on those days) and if Im just tender and sore and I know we are planning to have a good time later I will take Excedrin Back and Body and hydrate as much as possible, about an hour before hand. I think, from my own experience, that the pain doesn't happen much during sex as the next day. The reason I recommended hydrating is for some reason for me, it's similar to having a hangover and if I have hydrated well the day I have sex then I don't hurt quite so much as I do if we get spontaneous. My partner is in his mid-50's and isn't always wanting sex. I think on average we have sex about 4 times a month. So for me I am lucky in that I dont have to worry about pain after sex very often. We do make "dates" so that I can prep for it. Spontaneous sex is pretty rare around here.
Hope this helps!

Topic: RE: fibro meds interfere with weight loss?
I'm brand new to joining the forum (but have been reading for quite a while now!) but I have to chime in on this. I've had severe fibro / cfs for 6 years and over the last 3, have been on Lyrica and Effexor, among other things. This combo works the best for me, but maybe not for anyone else, we're all very different in re to meds. For some, NSAIDS DO give relief, I'm not one of them. I truly believe I have Lyrica to thank for my 150 pound weight gain. I have a love / hate relationship with it for sure lol
I have read up alot on WLS and the affects it has on firo. The vast majority of information I've read has said that it "cures" up to 90% of fibro problems. Now, the 90% figure came from my Rheumatologist, so not all may agree with that. However, that was enough to get me off my butt and start looking into WLS. I didn't ask (but have thought about it!) about meds working or not, but I've read that it may affect the meds that are extended release and how to test it is by seeing if it dissolves in a glass of water after 20 mins. Hope this helps!
